The IVLP group focused on AI also visited Moonlighter FabLab, guided by Executive Director Tom Pupo. The session highlighted Moonlighter’s engagement with local youth through science, math, art, and engineering projects in a FabLab setting. As a nonprofit digital fabrication lab, Moonlighter facilitates S.T.E.A.M. educational experiences and supports local designers, emphasizing the democratization of design tools and community empowerment. Tom discussed the establishment and benefits of joining the global FabLab Network, showcasing their roles in fostering creativity and innovation within the community. The MAGNA-TILES studio is a collaboration between The Museum of Discovery and Science, MAGNA-TILES, and Moonlighter FabLab - with the goal of inspiring thousands of makers of all ages through meaningful play at the intersection of art, science, and math! It has been an honor to help bring this to life - from designing and building the environmental elements like the giant backlit tiles on the ceiling and wall, to the hands-on interactive exhibits including a giant color wheel made from real MAGNA-TILES, a light shadow box, MAGNA-TILES history display, ferrofluid activity, magnetic maze activities, the giant magnetic castle, and all of the wall graphics. We are so proud of all the amazing things we were able to build in partnership with the Museum’s exhibits staff - we hope you are all able to visit and enjoy the exhibit with your families for years to come!
Very, very proud of this project - it is through partnerships and collaborations like these that we can have the greatest impact on inspiring future makers. We encourage you to take your families to the new MAGNA-TILES Studio at The Museum of Discovery and Science in Ft. Lauderdale.
