As #SCUPAnnualConference wraps up today, we continue our #HigherEd series: The Lower Sproul was one of the largest redevelopment projects on the University of California, Berkeley campus, and Sherwood joined a high-powered design team led by Moore Ruble Yudell Architects & Planners and CMG Landscape Architecture to re-envision the campus’ main entrance and social corridor. In addition to the redesign of the Lower Sproul Plaza, the project included complete redesign and replacement of Eshleman Hall and renovation of the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Union and Chavez Student Center. A ribbon of green runs through the plaza itself, with widened steps for lounging at one end and a rain garden to capture storm runoff at the other. Sherwood developed all civil engineering documents including grading and drainage plans, utility infrastructure, rainwater harvesting, and stormwater management plans, as well as a separate set of documents for streetscape improvements along Bancroft Way. These improvements included low impact development elements such as pervious paving and silva cells within the City of Berkeley right of way. https://lnkd.in/eQhnZESZ Photo credit Bruce Damonte Photography
