As #SCUPAnnualConference wraps up today, we continue our #HigherEd series: The Lower Sproul was one of the largest redevelopment projects on the University of California, Berkeley campus, and Sherwood joined a high-powered design team led by Moore Ruble Yudell Architects & Planners and CMG Landscape Architecture to re-envision the campus’ main entrance and social corridor. In addition to the redesign of the Lower Sproul Plaza, the project included complete redesign and replacement of Eshleman Hall and renovation of the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Union and Chavez Student Center. A ribbon of green runs through the plaza itself, with widened steps for lounging at one end and a rain garden to capture storm runoff at the other. Sherwood developed all civil engineering documents including grading and drainage plans, utility infrastructure, rainwater harvesting, and stormwater management plans, as well as a separate set of documents for streetscape improvements along Bancroft Way. Let's look back at this year's Los Angeles Conservancy Award Celebration honoring the UCLA Faculty Club renovation as one of its award winners. Representing a place for community advocacy and collaboration, this project preserves a distinctive Modern Ranch-style institutional building for future generations. This building integrates indoor outdoor connection with landscape architecture by Studio-MLA. The renovation completed in 2022 with construction by 2H Construction. Exciting news! On June 18, the Torrance City Council unanimously approved plans from Rose Equities. and Garden Communities to build up to 272 apartments at 2325 Crenshaw Boulevard. The Torrance Del Amo Project will feature four new buildings with a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, along with a two-level, 461-car garage. Landscape design by Studio-MLA.
