NeuraWorx's focus is on prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative dementia related diseases such as Alzheimer's by using bioelectronics to enhance the brain's Glymphatic System. Our scientific founders Dr. Ludwig and Dr. Williams built on the discovery of the glymphatic system* and have developed a technology that enhances glymphatic system flow and aims to improve waste clearance. In preclinical studies this innovative technology has shown enhancement in cerebral artery pulsation and cerebrospinal fluid flow. As we age, our brain's waste clearance capacity decreases, potentially leading to neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's dementia. *In 2012, neuroscientists at the University of Rochester discovered the Glymphatic system, a network of brain structures responsible for waste clearance.

Our three new patent applications have gone public, which in addition to our two awarded patents are the foundation for the company NeuraWorx. Our goal is to restore the function of the clearance systems of the brain that decrease during aging and can be critically compromised by TBI, Stroke and CTE using non-invasive/minimally invasive cranial nerve stimulation. After testing in rodent and large animal models, our first human studies are just beginning. Part of our mission at the Wisconsin Institute for Translational Neuroengineering (WI TNe) is to greatly accelerate the path for new neuromodulation devices into the clinic.
