As Jenya notes, these issues of grading and erosion controls can pose real challenges to developers looking to build solar projects that truly help communities. At Nevados, we've developed a solution that addresses these issues head-on. Our innovative solar tracker allows panels to follow the natural contours of the land, eliminating the need for destructive and expensive grading practices. Grading strips away topsoil, compacts the earth, and leaves bare dirt exposed. This results in massive erosion and runoff problems that harm local ecosystems and waterways. By preserving the existing landscape, we're not just protecting the environment – we're also ensuring compliance with regulations and avoiding costly violations. In recognition of our commitment to eliminating grading, our Bartonsville site in Northern Virginia was awarded a gold medal by the Virginia DEQ and Gov. Glenn Youngkin at this year’s Governor’s Environmental Excellence Awards. Nevados' All Terrain Tracker has been honored by Fast Company in their 2024 Innovation by Design awards! 🏆 Fast Company recognized how our tracker allows developers to install solar on any terrain without the need for grading, using short torque tube segments and auto-adjusting flexible bearings at each foundation to fit perfectly to the shape of the land. Other companies have adapted their traditional tracker designs so that they “work” on terrain. We threw out the old paradigm and engineered our tracker from the ground up, starting with terrain and re-imagining how a solar tracker can work. The benefits don’t stop there. Our unique design allows faster and easier construction, even on flat land. Third-party research from Eclipse-M confirms our trackers require significantly less labor compared to market-leading products – cutting labor time by 38%. Check the comments below for links to the Fast Company award site, our latest press release, and Eclipse-M’s detailed constructability report 🔗⬇️ #InnovationByDesign #TheWorldIsNotFlat #NoMoreGrading #SolarEnergy #Sustainability

It’s one of our favorite days of the year. We’re announcing the winners and honorees of our 2024 Innovation by Design Awards at Fast Company! Out of thousands of entries, a team of our staff, contributors, and a panel of design experts have selected 50 of the most notable designs of the year, in a massive editorial project spearheaded by Fast Company Design editor Liz Stinson and Jay Woodruff, rendered to life by Daniel Salo alongside the rest of our magazine’s award-winning art team Our Design Company of the Year is the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, which we recognized for its efforts in revitalizing classic design philosophy through high impact collaborations But what I always love is the sheer variety of designs we’re able to celebrate with this list. Honorees range from the SKIMS nipple bra to the Reddit, Inc. rebrand by Pentagram to a low-energy fridge by Whirlpool Corporation to the jaw dropping Sphere. It’s graphic design, industrial design, experience design, UX, fashion, architecture, sustainability, and of course, aesthetics—a celebration of science, art, and ingenuity Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s awards. I hope to see you in September for a special event to be scheduled during Fast Company’s Innovation Festival. And, without further adieu enjoy the list: https://lnkd.in/g92cTj6Y

Did you know the Nevados All Terrain Tracker simplifies solar power installation on any terrain, even flat land? Many think there's a trade-off: "It'll save me on grading, but won’t it be more complex and costly to install?" The truth is, it won’t! Bill Poulin and the Eclipse-M team recently benchmarked our tracker against leading competitors, focusing on constructability. Leaving out grading, civil engineering, and material handling (areas we already excel), they analyzed the physical work needed to assemble the tracker. The result? Our trackers are faster and easier to install compared to the top traditional solar trackers out there. Solar projects can enjoy the benefits of terrain-following trackers without added installation costs. To learn more, check out our recent pv magazine USA webinar with Bill and Rahul Chandra to learn how solar developers can accelerate the installation of solar power plants. The U.S. harbors over a million acres of abandoned mining land. These sites aren’t suitable for most new development, so they often sit unused for decades. If we built solar farms on even a fraction of this otherwise unusable land, we could generate enough power for hundreds of thousands, if not millions of households. So what’s stopping us? One big issue is the instability of the land. As mining shafts slowly collapse over time, the ground can shift, reshaping the surface-level terrain. This is called differential settlement. Traditional solar trackers, built with rigid continuous torque tubes, can’t be built on sites at risk of differential settlement. Foundation piles can move or tilt over time, which can disrupt a solar array or even cause it to collapse. Unlike other leading trackers, the Nevados All Terrain Tracker is uniquely designed to solve this problem. Only our tracker has self-adjusting articulating bearings at each foundation, allowing the structure to adapt as terrain shifts over time. If you’re heading to Philadelphia this week for RE+ Mid-Atlantic, don’t miss Greg Wolfson’s floor presentation at 3:30 pm on Thursday, “Solar Redevelopment: Mined Lands Mining the Sun.” See you there! #REPlusMA #TheWorldIsNotFlat #NoMoreGrading #MineReclamation #SolarPower #Sustainability

Who’s heading to Philadelphia next week for RE+ MidAtlantic? Mark your calendar for Greg Wolfson’s show floor theater talk on Thursday at 3:30pm, “Solar Redevelopment: Mined Lands Mining the Sun.” Building solar on brownfield sites like retired mines has long been an industry goal, turning an unused waste site into a productive power generator. But they can be challenging to redevelop because of the potential for differential settlement. Differential settlement is the uneven shifting of land, and can lead to solar foundations moving or tilting over time. With traditional tracking systems using long, continuous torque tubes, this can wreak havoc on the array, often leading to system failure. It’s particularly prevalent in reclaimed mines, where empty shafts beneath the surface slowly collapse over time. The Nevados All Terrain Tracker, with its self-adjusting articulating bearings at each foundation, is able to adapt to these changes. When pilings shift, the bearings move with them, ensuring that torque tubes stay in alignment. We hope to see you there! #REPlusMA #TheWorldIsNotFlat #NoMoreGrading #MineReclamation #SolarPower #Sustainability

Are you in Chicago this week for the Solar Farm Summit? Stop by booth C25 to see our innovative All Terrain Tracker, which is helping solar developers and EPCs build faster and more easily than ever before. The secret is our patented articulating bearing at each foundation, which automatically adjusts to the natural slope of the land. This simplifies the project design process, and short torque tube segments and wide tolerances make installation a breeze. We’ll also be hosting a coffee break and networking session tomorrow at 10:25am, in between the morning educational sessions and workshops. We hope to see you there! #TheWorldIsNotFlat #NoMoreGrading #Agrivoltaics #SolarPower #Farming
