    In June, NIV hosted our first-ever Symposium, bringing together over 100 leaders across the beauty landscape, from founders, to funders, to e-comm platforms, and retailers.  We discussed the topics at the forefront of beauty including emerging markets, consumer and retail trends, investor appetite, the e-comm landscape and featured speakers from The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., Beauty Independent, Front Row, Google, IDEX Capital Partners Ltd, Imaginary, Isya Aesthetics , Moda Operandi, Inc, SD Advisory, Silas Capital, Squared Circles, TikTok Shop, and True Beauty Ventures.     In September, we introduced our first ever scouting program: NIV Scouts. Now that we are over halfway through the program, we are excited to highlight the Scouts’ contribution to NIV so far. The cohort is made up of a diverse group of The Estee Lauder Cos. employees spanning the company’s brands, functions, and regions globally. The group members have leveraged their individual expertise and deep understanding of ELC's strategy to help NIV source breakthrough brands and identify emerging trends across beauty. Over the course of the program, they have also learned how NIV evaluates potential investments and gained a broader understanding of venture capital and the indie beauty market. Since September, the Scouts have sourced over 200 brands from 21 countries. Of the brands sourced, over 80 had never been reviewed by NIV. The group has also contributed meaningful insights and helped NIV refine theses around new brands and categories. Thank you to our Scouts for all of your hard work!

    NIV attended in-cosmetics Global in Paris in April. The conference brought together the world’s most innovative ingredient suppliers across beauty and personal care. This year, the conference hosted 1000+ exhibitors and 10,000+ professionals. NIV met with 70+ ingredient innovators. NIV also sponsored the inaugural BRKTHRU VOICES Award at the event. The award recognized pioneering innovation in four areas: clinical breakthroughs, product innovation, ingredient innovation, and active derms. The winner, Enantis, received a $10,000 grant and access to NIV’s network and mentorship. Enantis is an innovative protein-engineering company focused on the stabilization of growth factors. FGF2-STAB®, Enantis’ flagship product, is already established and well-known in the R&D market as a key component for stem cell cultivation. The company aims to introduce FGF2-STAB® as a new and revolutionary cosmetic ingredient.

    Liquid supplements - the future of Skincare? I am a few months into the role Haeckels. Unlearning, learning, reading, reviewing, rethinking, thinking and questioning. The question I like the most is ¨What should be or what is the purpose of a beauty brand in 2024?¨. Each day there is another story about a new launch, a new wild valuation, epic fundraises, bankruptcy, layoffs, tweens and Gen Z being afraid of ageing gracefully, the latest and greatest new ingredient in a capsule or powder drink or, my least favourite, an AI stunt. What I see at Haeckels is whole-system thinking—tweaking and adjusting as we go to find our homeostasis, be that in trading, our stores, our community activity, our big dreams vs. current reality, or simply in our obsession with the gut-skin axis. It's a bit of a cliche, but beauty really does come from within. Our latest (stealth) launch is new-to-you, but not new to Haeckels. Our team of nutritionists and chefs have been lovingly preparing broths, shots, teas, and nutritional balls at our Casino (promise I will explain one day) kitchen in Margate for years, all to be served as part of the ritual at our spas in London and Margate. We have practised the notion of supporting skin from the inside out for quite some time, nourishing both skin and gut biomes with simple routines - they have been so well received that we have done everything we can to launch them to-go. This is version 1. The seaweed broth is as delicious as it is nutritious. I use it to support my intermittent fasting or as an alternative to tea and coffee in the morning. The beetroot probiotic is a massive supercharger. What do you think?
