The nonprofit Coalition for Health AI (CHAI) has released a draft guide for testing the quality of AI use in healthcare. It includes an assurance standards guide and checklists for evaluating AI tools. These would be used in CHAI assurance labs and also be available to companies and third-party quality assurance assessors. CHAI spent 8 months drafting the guide and consulted more than 100 people across the healthcare and tech spectrum. The public comment period for the guide is open until September 6. The organization will then publish a final version but has said it will be iterative. https://lnkd.in/grG42JUh I #ArtificialIntelligence #DigitalHealth #HealthcareInnovation #HealthcareAI #HealthTech Fierce Healthcare

Epic has finished its revamp of Cogito, its analytics toolset, and it’s time for healthcare organizations to take advantage of the improvements. The EHR giant announced last year that it would move Cogito and its components (Clarity, Caboodle, Cosmos, Nebula, Reporting Workbench and other modules), to the Microsoft Azure cloud in order to improve scalability and move away from on-premise SQL servers. Among other things, the transition unlocks the ability to provide real-time data for analytics tools and machine learning. Curious about Cogito’s new capabilities and how they might help your organization? We can show you how to maximize your Epic EHR to transform your data utilization and self-service analytics to ensure reliable data for more-informed decision making. 94% of medical researchers and healthcare clinicians around the world think AI can help their work and improve healthcare, but an equal number also believe it will be used for misinformation. A new survey from medical research publisher Elsevier found: ▶ 94% of researchers and 96% of clinicians think AI will accelerate knowledge discovery ▶ 87% think it will increase work quality overall ▶ 85% believe AI will free up time to focus on higher-value projects However, the survey also found: ▶ 95% of researchers and 93% of clinicians believe AI will be used for misinformation ▶ 86% of researchers and 85% of clinicians think AI will cause critical errors and weaken critical thinking ▶ 80% of researchers and 75% of clinicians believe AI will disrupt society What’s clear is that AI needs to be implemented carefully and deliberately. Pivot Point can help healthcare systems make the best use of AI tools while guarding against errors and misuse. https://lnkd.in/gCS2Pd_B I #HealthcareAI #HealthTech #ArtificialIntelligence #DigitalHealth

Healthcare organizations are still parsing the HTI-2 proposed rule just released for public comment by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). Pivot Point Consulting’s SVP and management consulting leader Kulwant Gill was one of the experts called upon by Andrea Fox of Healthcare IT News to make sense of the proposal to improve health information exchange among providers, public health agencies and payers. Gill spoke about how access to holistic medical histories and trusted data is critical to an ever-expanding value-based care environment and the ability to better predict financial and operational implications and build action plans. What will EHRs be able to do 10 years from now? That’s the question Becker's Healthcare recently asked top healthcare executives. They considered the addition of AI, ambient listening and more, envisioning EHRs that offer more data visualization, asynchronous care and care coordination capabilities. They also said EHRs will take on a more proactive role, using predictive analytics to personalize treatment plans and more. 50% of healthcare organizations are still not fully optimizing their existing EHR capabilities. Not so fast, cautions Kathy Krypel, our Managing Director of Enterprise Applications. She recommends achieving EHR standardization and optimization before moving forward. Once those things are accomplished, it will be easier to achieve interoperability, perfect foolproof virtual access to primary/specialty care and enhance ambient listening tools. https://lnkd.in/g3j9-Amg I #EHR #EHRs #Interoperability #DataSharing #PredictiveAnalytics

The top 3 large-group insurers have an average of 82.2% market share in each state, which is double the 43.1% combined market share of the largest health systems. That’s according to a new study from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) which argues that when the market share of an insurer far exceeds the market share of an individual health system, it lowers the amount that insurers reimburse hospitals and health systems. https://lnkd.in/g87uDmeF I #Hospitals #HealthcareFinances #HospitalMergers RevCycleIntelligence

Implementing EHRs remains a priority for healthcare organizations worldwide, according to a new report from research firm KLAS Research. The study found that while the total number of EHR purchases last year dipped slightly below the recent average, the number of hospitals involved reached a 5-year high. Epic notched the most new hospital wins in 2023, giving it the most extensive total market share worldwide by number of hospitals. The report noted increased investment in Europe, mainly Southern Europe, due to government initiatives. Pivot Point Consulting can help healthcare organizations select the best EHR system and ensure that implementation and integration go smoothly and without incident. https://lnkd.in/gdqMJR5a I #EHR #HealthTech #HealthIT #HealthcareTechnology #Interoperability HIT Consultant Media

Healthcare systems worried about cybersecurity would do well to remember that the Death Star was destroyed through a single, unprotected thermal exhaust port. Now, imagine the number of equivalent weaknesses in the average healthcare system. Attackers don’t need the Force on their side to wreak havoc, as evidenced by the Change Healthcare disaster and dozens of other examples. A recent article in Healthcare IT Today detailed the most common threats to healthcare security, including social engineering, human error, legacy solutions and poor maintenance, unsecured mobile devices and more. Our experts at Pivot Point Consulting take a proactive approach to cybersecurity. We can identify and plug weaknesses as part of a comprehensive cybersecurity defense, including knowledge of security standards, such as PHI, PII and SOX. We also advise leaders on the cost-benefit tradeoffs in data security investments, ensuring your system is prepared for any potential threats. https://lnkd.in/em7jYgTv I #Cybersecurity #HealthTech #HealthcareHacking #HealthcareData
