🎙 The need for sustainability in the plastics sector cannot be lightly overlooked. We asked our coordinator Emiliano Mesa of CIRCE - Centro Tecnológico to discuss how #PLASTICE_eu is contributing to greater #ChemicalRecycling through advanced technological development, ultimately boosting the sector circularity. Have a look at the work carried out by our partner AZCATEC Tecnología e Ingeniería in some EU-funded projects, including #PLASTICE_eu! ⤵
🌟 Building Synergies Between HEU Projects 🌟 At AZCATEC Tecnología e Ingeniería, we are committed to excellence and innovation. As part of the HEU Platform-ZERO, our goal is to revolutionize the photovoltaic industry by achieving a zero-defect manufacturing process. ⚙️🌱 🔄 However, we don't stop there. Aware of the importance of recycling photovoltaic waste, our colleague Luis Azaña participated at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide, de Sevilla Summer School, sharing innovative ideas on the recycling process with the Platform Zero consortium. This includes: 🧩 Mechanical separation to isolate metals, glass, and plastics. 🔥 Thermomechanical techniques such as HTL and Pyrolysis to recycle the plastics from photovoltaic panels, which are the most difficult to recycle. In addition, projects like PLASTICE, which focuses on innovative plastic recycling methods, and #GoAgrovoltaica, which aims to integrate agricultural and photovoltaic systems for sustainable energy production. 🌾☀️ This approach not only complies with the EU 2012/19/EU directive, which requires manufacturers to take responsibility for their electronic waste, but also promotes a more sustainable future for all. 🌍♻️ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d9csrAWh #Innovation #Sustainability #Engineering #Photovoltaics #HEUPlatformZero #Plastice_eu #CircularEconomy #GreenTechnology #RandD #HEU #HorizonEurope #SolarPV #Manufacturing #SixSigma #Recycling #Plastics

Some more insights on the microwave-assisted pyrolysis technology coming directly from #PLASTICE_eu coordinator CIRCE - Centro Tecnológico. Find out more about their work below! ⤵
This has been a very busy month for the “microwave team” at CIRCE - Centro Tecnológico. We were presenting our microwave-reactor development results at the M24 PLASTICE EU Project and the M18 REFRESH project EU General Assemblies, as well as at the SET_IndEU Annual Event on “Advancing Sustainable Energy in Industry” and at the "ACI's European Wind Blade Recycling Summit 2024”. With the aim of offering fully electrified and energy-efficient solutions to boost the circular economy of unsortable plastics, composites and textile waste, we are developing microwave-assisted reactor technologies to conduct these challenging thermo-chemical recycling processes under faster and milder conditions. Due to the selective sample heating and thanks to the induced temperature gradient between the heated specimen and the surrounding atmosphere, we are able to control the cracking rate of plastics, polymers and resins upon heating, thus, tuning the oil products distribution on demand and getting more added-value out of the valorized waste, while preserving the mechanical properties of the fibers (in case of composite-based waste). At CIRCE, we have more than 10 years accumulated expertise on the modeling and simulation of microwave irradiated reactors, experimental validation using bench scale prototypes and assessment of scaled microwave reactor systems, providing our knowledge to drive the conceptual design and basic engineering of pilot units to be exploited by our industrial partners. Thanks to all my outstanding colleagues at CIRCE for your great contributions (Gonzalo Murillo Ciordia, Alejandro Fresneda Cruz, Monique Bernardes Figueirêdo, Carlos González Niño, PhD, Cecilia Chaine, Inés Eugenia Lanz Andrés, Alberto Frisa-Rubio, Maycon Figueira Magalhães, Andrés S.). Also thanks to the four EU Projects that are currently funding our developments in this field (PLASTICE, REFRESH project EU, REDOL EU Project and CUBIC EU Project), as well as to the industrial partners that already trusted in our technology. Exciting times ahead. Stay tuned to discover our new updates and let's meet at the coming "2nd Annual Wind Blades Material & Recycling Forum" (https://lnkd.in/dwaXNhF9), in which we will be officially presenting our new continuous scaled microwave-assisted reactor prototype and set-up for waste valorization purposes. 😉
