Meet the heroes of the grid: 🗼 Static Masts: The tallest warriors in a substation! These lightning masts are strategically placed to catch lightning and safely ground it, keeping our equipment safe and sound. 💪 Static Wires: The guardians of transmission lines! Positioned higher than the energized lines, these steel wires take the hit from lightning first. Plus, they can have fiber optic cables running through them for extra superpowers! Power Line Basics: 🔌 Transmission Lines: The power highways! They transport electricity from generation areas to substations over long distances at high voltages. 🏠 Distribution Lines: The local delivery guys! They distribute electricity from substations to homes, businesses, and other end-users at lower, safer voltages. Next time you see those tall masts and high wires, you'll know they're our first line of defense against nature's electric fury! ⚡🛡️ #PowerGrid #Electricity101 #LightningSafety #LightningSafetyAwarenessWeek

At the end of Rawhide Energy Station’s first year, Platte River’s first General Manager Al Hamilton bought an entire herd of American Bison (21 total), through an Adopt-a-Buffalo program. To Hamilton, the bison symbolized the ruggedness of the American West, the intrepid people who worked tirelessly to build the new energy station and Platte River as an organization. These animals were to serve as a reminder that a power generation facility like Rawhide could coexist in harmony with the same plants and animals that greeted the pioneers.
