PSG was founded on the combined legacies and experience of all of the Power Plant Services, Airco Inc. companies, Turbine Generator Maintenance, and Orbital Energy Services—all companies with a solid track record and reputation. PSG provides customers with a broad maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) solution for all rotating equipment and other critical plant maintenance services. More specifically, PSG’s service offering includes field services, field machining, steam path repairs, valve repair and parts manufacturing, generator inspection and repair, balance of plant maintenance, and specialty code welding. Industries served include power generation (nuclear, fossil, hydro-electric, and wind), industrial, and petrochemical. When it comes to steam turbines, the installation of turbine buckets is a critical step. These aerodynamic blades play a vital role in converting steam energy into rotational power. Here’s what happens during bucket installation: Preparation: Technicians meticulously inspect each bucket, ensuring it’s free from defects and damage. Safety gear, including heat-resistant gloves and eye protection, is a must! Wheel Attachment: Each bucket connects to the turbine wheel using tang dovetails. These fit into cutouts around the wheel rim. The design ensures a secure fit without overheating. Interference Fit: New buckets are carefully fitted with an interference fit. Heavy-duty straps tighten bucket groups. Axial Securing: The last few buckets are secured axially using twist-locks. This prevents any axial movement during operation.
