A New Era | VRTY Commentary It’s a new era, and I’m excited to share this one with you. I’m excited to wake up and watch this community grow as we are bound together by art in this game called life. Isn’t it funny how different artists are beginning to be treated? Isn’t it funny how different you are beginning to be treated? In this new era, two things are certain: everything is changing and we are in a distinct time. We are in a time of interconnectedness like none other. During this era, prioritize your community. Family is God’s first institution, and not just the family you’re born into. It’s also about the family you build. Art serves as a unifier when used correctly. When art is used to express cultures, values, beliefs, and ways of living, art goes beyond aesthetics. As we transition into this new era, I challenge you to think about your community. Think about those little quirks that bind you together. Think about the little details that make home feel like home. As artists, we express the spirit of the times. We take underlying energies and feelings and express them viscerally. We create art to unify communities through value and culture. Do not take lightly the skills you have. They are needed and will be needed in the days to come. Until then, focus on your art, and focus on your family. Your community is an art. Let’s let the art do the talking. Every season has its purpose. To our community of artists and aesthetes, consider the season you are in. There are seasons of learning and there are seasons of earning. There are seasons of reaping and there are seasons of sowing. Know the importance of the season you’re in; that’s where wisdom resides. Right now, many throughout our community and the world at large are in the midst of transition. New habits, hobbies, careers, relationships, and triumphs are on the way. Old ways and patterns are beginning to recede in the background. Art is important in the midst of transition. It keeps you grounded and reminds you of your why. The art you create during transitional moments becomes timeless in retrospect, so be sure you’re maintaining creative habits. It’s important to take time to be out in nature. Nature has healing properties. Step outside where you can escape the noise and think. Think about those feelings that you can’t exactly express in words. Let your art give them voice. Everything is interconnected and it’s all by design. Each and every one of us are playing a different game with a different deck of cards, but that’s how we can appreciate each other more and more. We are all different colors of the same dirt. Enjoy your weekend. Take time to be outside. Take time to create. Be faithful in every season. Remember there’s an ultimate tactician at play. Artists are leaders, and leaders are storytellers. When speaking on the challenges facing society today, it’s important to remember that we aren’t dealing with mere statistics or demographics. We are dealing with people. Every person has a story to tell, but many don’t have the voice or the resources to tell it. Artists, use your creativity to be a storyteller. Tell the stories of the individuals around the world facing injustice. Make these stories visceral. Art speaks where words fail. Politics is opinion, but lived experience is fact. Use your skills to express the lived experience of your community. That is your task as an artist and a leader. Never let anyone discredit the value of your creativity. Use your art to storytell, and watch the impact it creates. Artists are leaders, so let the art do the talking.

VRTY Commentary | Life’s Purpose Life at its essence can be so simple. Exploring the world, finding passions, and building relationships are the key values of the rising generation. Life can be so simple. This capitalistic game turned reality causes us to forget our essence. Our brains fully develop at 25 and many lose that inner child to play the game. Artists, listen carefully: Do what you need to do to survive and care your your family, but understand that your wealth is in what you create. Don’t let this world destroy that inner child. We are at a point in time where money is not viewed in the same light as before. This is a crucial moment in the kairos. This is a call to take a step back, no matter your age, and remember that we exist on this world to create and explore. We exist to build relationships and experience the love God so freely provides to us all. Never forget that!! Your life is an art, so treasure it. Love others and let the art do the talking. In 2024, our artists need this more than ever. Research a fashion week near you and be sure to support and attend. South Carolina residents, Columbia Fashion Week is an amazing opportunity to share the room with other artists and creatives. Remember: it is your environment that directly affects your growth. You need to place yourself in an environment around other creatives with like-minded purpose. For your longevity, this isn’t an option. It’s a necessity.
