Project Pink Tax
Non-profit Organizations
A student-led 501(c)3 non-profit organization combatting period poverty to increase menstrual equity.
About us
Recognizing the challenges faced by many individuals across the United States who struggle to afford essential hygiene products during their menstrual cycles, we seek to address the issue of period poverty by ensuring access to quality menstrual products. The combination of exorbitant prices with the imposition of a "luxury tax" in 22 states acts as a significant barrier to affordable menstrual products. To support lower-income individuals, we collect menstrual products and distribute them to those experiencing poverty. Through this initiative, we aim to raise public awareness about period poverty while advancing period equity within the DC Metropolitan area and beyond.

A group of our Pink Hosts (Priya Belle, Addie Fikry, Georgie McGrath, Esmee Martinez) at the Cape Fear Academy hosted a successful fundraiser at their school, and created an informative commercial on the #PinkTax to spread awareness about the unequal pricing of products marketed towards women versus those marketed towards men. Their amazing work is attached below, please give it a watch! 💕 Want to become a Pink Host? Apply Here: https://lnkd.in/eczyyT8C

This past Friday our Physical Donations Coordinator, Norah Madan, dropped off over 6,500 menstrual products to our friends at Thrive DC who are working daily to support individuals facing homelessness with rehabilitation services. Thrive DC serves ~100 clients daily with emergency services like hot meals, personal hygiene resources, laundry, counseling, and feminine hygiene supplies. We are thrilled to begin our partnership with Thrive DC, ensuring access to free, high-quality menstrual products for those who cannot afford them monthly. Thank you to our supporters for allowing us to do this amazing work! ❤️ If you would like to support our next drop-off, please consider making a gift here: https://lnkd.in/eZD6tNYb 💕

This past Wednesday, we had the pleasure of meeting with DC Wise, Non-Profit Organization, to discuss our efforts at Project Pink Tax to combat period poverty in the DC Metropolitan Area, and to learn more about their impactful work investing in people and organizations that are supporting at-risk communities in the DC area. We extend our heartfelt thanks to DC Wise for their generous donation of menstrual products! Our Co-founder, Yochi H., and Co-CFO, Nathaniel Spruill, engaged in an extremely insightful conversation with the DC Wise Board, delving into the effects of period poverty, the necessity of menstrual education, and our future plans at Project Pink Tax. We eagerly anticipate further discussions and look forward to strengthening our relationship with DC Wise! A special thank you to our COO, Rhaya Jacobs, and Co-founder, Makenzie Reilly, for their behind-the-scenes support in making this conversation happen! About DC Wise: DC Wise is a non-profit organization committed to investing in, and enhancing organizations that positively impact the lives of women and children in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. DC WISE was founded in 2014 by a group of like-minded women with the purpose of raising funds for service providers serving at-risk and disadvantaged women and children in the Washington, DC area. Each year, DC WISE makes a 3 year commitment to a new partner organization to provide unrestricted funds to support women and children who are at-risk or disadvantaged. DC WISE Partners are organizations that are providing critical services and opportunities to women and children in Washington, D.C. who are homeless, low-income or otherwise at-risk.
