The RTC is the leading coalition for organizations working to decarbonize process heat and buildings.
About us
Energy used for heating and cooling comprises approximately 50 percent of total global final energy demand and 39 percent of energy-related carbon dioxide emissions. In the United States, heating and cooling account for more than 25 percent of total energy use across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors at a cost of $270 billion annually. Despite its large energy and carbon footprint and its significant potential to reduce carbon emissions, the use of renewable energy for heating and cooling applications, including biomass, biogas, geothermal, landfill gas, renewable electrification, renewable hydrogen, and solar thermal, has received relatively little attention compared with renewable electricity. The Renewable Thermal Collaborative (RTC) serves as the leading coalition for organizations that are committed to scaling up renewable heating and cooling at their facilities and dramatically cutting carbon emissions. RTC members recognize the growing demand and necessity for renewable heating and cooling and the urgent need to meet this demand in a manner that delivers sustainable, cost-competitive options at scale. The Renewable Thermal Collaborative is facilitated by the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, David Gardiner and Associates, and World Wildlife Fund.

RTC Member Ansell commits to setting a Science Based Target! Great to see! Artha Salgado from Ansell will be at the RTC Summit. Come talk with him and learn more about Ansell's decarbonization efforts.
We're committed!🤝 We've sent a letter of commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (the SBTi) saying we're going to establish companywide net-zero targets 🎯 and will submit these for their validation within 2 years. Time to get to work⏰for a safer future! 🌍 Read the details here 👉 http://bit.ly/3yf81LI #AnsellProtects #Sustainability #ScienceBasedTargets

Always exciting to see RTC Members deploying more #renewableelectricity. Congratulations to Stryker on this new #solar project. Come meet Stryker at the RTC Summit in September!
Sometimes, the brightest ideas are powered by the sun.... literally. Earlier this year, our location in Venlo, NL took strides to help us meet our goal of using 100% renewable electricity by 2027 when they installed 1800 solar panels on their roof. This installation will cover nearly 40% of their annual power needs – talk about a bright idea! ☀️ ☀️ Curious how else our teams are working to achieve our sustainability goals? Kevin Rabinovitch, Mars’ Chief Climate Officer, with a whirlwind tour of Mars’ GHG reduction progress. It’s a heck of a team over there at Mars.
Communications Leader at Mars | Driving Positive Corporate and Brand Reputation | Pet Partners Board Member
We unveiled some big news today. Here’s the TL;DR: Mars delivered a record 8% greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction, doubling our total GHG reductions to 16% across the full value chain since our 2015 baseline. That’s 5.7 million metric tons, the equivalent of 1.3 million gasoline powered vehicles in a year. In the same period, the Mars business has grown over 60%. A big step in our journey to net zero by 2050. Climate action can’t wait and I’m very proud of the actions Mars and its Associates are taking for a healthier planet tomorrow. 🌎 If you’re curious to learn more about the progress Mars is making, check out our 2023 Sustainable in a Generation Report at: https://lnkd.in/e3jUHX5F #proudlymars #tomorrowstartstoday

Mars is a founding Member of the RTC, and they've just released the 2023 Mars Sustainable in a Generation Report, announcing notable progress toward their goal of achieving net zero by 2050. Mars achieved a record 8% GHG emissions reduction against its 2015 baseline across its full value chain in 2023. Since 2015, Mars has reduced GHG emissions in the company's value chain by 16% (or 5.7 million metric tons — the equivalent GHG emissions generated by more than 1.3 million gasoline-powered automobiles in a year). Congratulations to everyone at Mars making this happen! Learn more at the link below. https://lnkd.in/ghJRcAx3

While #solarthermal technology has the potential to scale and meet up to 25% of U.S. industrial thermal energy demand, there is a policy gap that must be first addressed. Currently, U.S. federal and state solar thermal policies, including financial incentives and compliance markets, are inconsistent, short-term, low-impact, or nonexistent. To help overcome this barrier, we will implement the following policy actions through ongoing collaboration with the RTC community and external partners: -Expand and support access to funding and resources for research, development, demonstration, and deployment (RDD&D) to ensure incentives and grants foster the development of low-cost solar thermal pilot and demonstration projects in key industrial sectors. -Advocate for continued eligibility for federal tax incentives to provide long-term certainty to market actors and lower costs for industrial end users to deploy solar thermal technologies. -Cultivate solar thermal legislative champions to create consensus on the need for federal policy to support solar thermal deployment. -Evaluate opportunities to establish state-level clean heat standards with solar thermal carveouts to require heat providers (e.g., utilities) to deliver an increasing percentage of zero-emissions heating to customers over time.
