Our dedicated Food and Nutrition Services leaders at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital (RWRH), Christie Matthews and Chef Tim Cooper, had a great idea two years ago to launch the "Picnic on the Patio" program to boost team member morale and offer a place to decompress during the day. Team member engagement is crucial in fostering a positive work environment and the "picnic on the patio" program, offered twice a month at RWRH, allows team members the chance to take a much-needed break to enjoy a delicious meal in the beautiful outdoor seating area. This opportunity to decompress before returning to patient care is a morale booster for everyone and a fantastic way for the Food and Nutrition team to showcase their skills. We really do love the creativity involved in making this idea come to life!

We are excited to announce Toiya Sosa, Chief Diversity Officer at Riverside, has been named in the Top Diversity, Equity & Inclusion leaders to know from Becker's Healthcare. 🌟 🎉 Ms. Sosa joined Riverside in 2021 and brought 22 years of experience working with diverse organizations including the Urban League, American Heart Association, United Way, NAACP, UNCF, and YWCA. Since being in the role, Sosa established two diversity oversight committees, a supplier diversity program, interdisciplinary oversight committees for patient grievances and language access, and an external college internship program to help improve diversity in leadership. Toiya is an American Hospital Association Fellow of the Diversity and Health Equity Executive Certificate Program and in addition to her role at Riverside, she serves on the board of the Urban League of Hampton Roads, Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities Peninsula Chapter and she is Vice-Chair of the United Way’s African American Leadership Society.
