How are Robin Hood and Paul Hastings partnering to fight poverty in NYC? Recently, our team had the pleasure of meeting with Paul Hastings LLP for an inspiring session about how their employees can make a significant social impact in New York City through Robin Hood. The event—organized by Paul Hasting's Lauren Brooten (Tsuchiya) and led by Robin Hood's Chris Campbell, Kate Davis, Margaret Schilling, and David Tomczak—was a masterclass in corporate engagement and nonprofit support. The room buzzed with energy as we delved into Robin Hood's mission to fight poverty in NYC, the state of poverty in New York, as well as unveiling our exciting corporate partnership opportunities, highlighting how companies like Paul Hastings LLP can collaborate with Robin Hood. But the highlight of the day was showcasing Robin Hood's Board Placement program, a best-in-class service that connects passionate employees with the boards of Robin Hood grantees. This was brought to life by Shawn Kodes, a Paul Hastings LLP partner, who shared his incredible journey with Robin Hood, serving on the board of Start Small Think Big and previously the Chair of the Junior Board of Partnership with Children. If your organization is ready to fight poverty and support NYC nonprofits, reach out to Robin Hood today! Together, we can ensure every New Yorker gets a fair shot. #FightPoverty

It's HOT in NYC, but many low-income New Yorkers struggle to keep cool. Our latest #PovertyTracker report, with Columbia University's Center for Poverty and Social Policy, reveals a tough reality: energy insecurity. With utility costs rising and summers getting hotter, this is a big deal. Did you know that over 700,000 New Yorkers have their utilities shut off at least once a year? Over five years, that's more than 1.5 million people! Read the report and see what can be done to help: https://lnkd.in/ew_BxEzT #FightPoverty

How do we fight poverty by driving career opportunities for young adults in the Bronx? That's the question Capital One asked Robin Hood, and why Capital One is partnering with us to invest over $500,000 in young adults in the Bronx. Facing the highest rates of poverty, hardship, and health issues in NYC, the Bronx also has the highest unemployment rate among young adults aged 18-34 at 31%. Capital One’s $500,000 grant will provide skills training and support for 2,500 Bronx residents. “The issues impacting young adults living in the Bronx have compounded since the pandemic,” said Richard Buery, CEO of Robin Hood. “We must continue to invest in their futures.” This partnership focuses on four critical areas: 🎓 College Access, 💼 Career Paths & Job Placements, 📉 Decrease Recidivism, 👐 Holistic Support. Supported through the Capital One Impact Initiative, this investment aims to drive economic growth and close opportunity gaps. Join us in celebrating this partnership and the positive impact it will have on the future of young adults in the Bronx. https://lnkd.in/eChQ4gUA

Since joining Robin Hood in October, I’ve been eagerly looking forward to planning & executing Camp Robin Hood: a week-long service camp for NYC high school teens. Last week, I finally experienced the magic of Camp; leading 16 teens through a week of service, volunteering, and learning about the landscape of inequality in NYC & how Robin Hood fights to make our city work for ALL New Yorkers. The week was comprised of: -A trip to Bowery Residents' Committee to learn about BRC’s work to house our neighbors. -A visit to Part of the Solution to volunteer for their lunch service. -A trip to the Bronx Zoo with the GABI Program at Montefiore Health System, where teens acted as “mentors”/buddies to children in the GABI program, leading them around the Children’s Zoo, and learning about the importance of Early Childhood on life economic outcomes. -A Parent Reception, where teens presented their learnings & takeaways from the week to their loved ones. I’m incredibly proud of the week I and my colleagues put together, and grateful to have a career I love, at a place that inspires and challenges me. Working with teens is incredibly rewarding (and fun). And I’m sincerely looking forward to Camp Robin Hood 2025!

Wow! What a week! Had the incredible opportunity to visit The White House on Monday, where a discussion on the representation of Latino/as in asset allocation, venture capital and entrepreneurship took place. It was an honor to represent Robin Hood, Robin Hood Blue Ridge Labs and Rebel One - RBL1. Grateful to Vincent Cordero for spearheading the initiative and Tom Perez (Senior Advisor to the President of the United States) who hosted the group. #WhiteHouse #TechDiversity #Representation #Leadership #ltxvc #latinx #latinosintech

What if our justice system prioritized rehabilitation over incarceration? Robin Hood CEO Richard Buery tackled this crucial question at the 2024 Aspen Ideas Festival with artist and activist John Legend, Professor Andrea Armstrong, and “Ear Hustle” podcast hosts Earlonne Woods and Nigel Poor, delving into the urgent issue of rising jail populations across the country, especially those held pretrial. The discussion centered on the violence and trauma inside jails, which erode families and communities. Rich highlighted how incarceration both stems from and exacerbates poverty—a core focus of Robin Hood’s mission in NYC. By investing in community support and policy reforms, we aim to break this vicious cycle. Our work is about more than fighting poverty—it’s about creating safe, thriving communities. The panel emphasized humane treatment, rehabilitation, and transformative solutions to reduce jail populations and foster community reintegration. We’re proud to be part of these vital conversations and committed to reshaping the justice system to restore dignity and strengthen communities. Let’s continue working together to build a justice system that prioritizes dignity, rehabilitation, and community well-being. #FightPoverty
