"As I am writing this, I’m looking at the envelopes on my desk with the letters that are sure to change my life – my acceptances to UC Berkeley and the University of Southern California for the fall. While I’m not yet sure which one I’ll attend, I am so proud to say that I also was accepted into Boston University (as a Trustee Scholar), UC Davis, UC Irvine, Santa Clara University, George Washington University, CSU Long Beach, and San Jose State University. And furthermore, I won a Webb Scholarship which means I will go to college debt-free." Students like Fernanda prove why school choice is so important: having access to an education from Rocketship Fuerza as a child has propelled her to have the option to choose between eleven outstanding universities for her college experience. Congratulations, Fernanda! Wherever you go, we'll be cheering you on.🚀💜

As we look back on the incredible achievements of the 23-24 school year, we're filled with pride for our dedicated educators at Rocketship DC. Last month at our annual Cheers to Rocketeers event, five standout educators received awards recognizing their achievements. Let's honor those who went above and beyond to ensure our Rocketeers excelled: 🚀 DC Rocketeer of the Year: Jonathan Morris, Music Educator Mr. Morris is an exceptional music teacher who captivates students with his engaging lessons. Beyond the classroom, he supports the school community in numerous ways, from substitute coverage to running the school store. His professionalism and collaboration set a high standard, and he holds his teammates accountable to improve our community. 💜 Community Award: Arcadia Johnson, Science Educator Despite facing extreme adversity, Ms. Johnson has shown unwavering commitment to our community. She helped launch our inaugural science program at Legacy Prep, bringing joy and excitement to Rocketeers. Her deep connections with families and her dedication to the community inspire us all to show up for what’s best for kids every day. 🌱 Tenacity Award: Krysi Hermes, Integrated Special Education Specialist Ms. Hermes is relentless in pushing for success, always helping our school community track progress and providing guidance in new areas. She is a significant force in the growth of our students and works tirelessly to ensure staff is set up for success. Her extensive knowledge and confidence support everyone in the building. 💡 Innovation Award: Sheena McDuffie, Science Educator Ms. Sheena has taken the science program at Legacy Prep beyond expectations, making it a highlight for students and staff. Through her work with Out Teach and our Amplify curriculum, she has made science one of the most enjoyable parts of the school day. Students and staff love the engaging experiences she brings to science class. 🌟 Authenticity Award: Cindy Juarez, Math Educator Ms. Juarez has worked incredibly hard all school year to create a joyful, consistent, and excellent classroom environment that feels like a family. Her students can be their authentic selves, regardless of skill levels or needs, and she meets every student and family where they are. She models caring for the whole child while holding high expectations, ensuring students learn the skills needed to be their best selves. Every student’s success in her class is a product of her and her co-teachers' authentic love for this work and their belief that all students can achieve Congratulations to all our award winners and a heartfelt thank you to every educator at Rocketship DC. Your dedication and passion make a lasting difference in our students' lives. We look forward to continuing this journey of excellence together in the upcoming school year!
