    As Scrollmark works with more and more social-first brands, I can’t help but feel inspired by the work done by the wonderful social media managers I’ve met. Social teams are mavericks in marketing, always a step ahead in identifying and shaping trends and language before they become the norm in mainstream media. I wanted to call out some social teams whose content I’ve admired in the last week. Comment below on any that I might have missed - always looking for entertaining new brands to follow! SONIC Drive-In I still can’t believe pickles in Dr. Pepper is a thing, but Sonic now “has a product” to help 🙃 Sonic ended up getting 15M views and 300K engagements across Instagram, FB, and TikTok. Tiege Hanley, Inc. While most videos on this list were reels to drive awareness, Tiege Hanley used stories as a downstream conversion tool for their current followers. They used a funny story to drive more DMs, and used Scrollmark to collect tons of leads and drive new website visitors Pridemore Properties The anticipation is what gets you - Pridemore really made the “I asked my Gen Z employee…” trend their own! Pridemore got 62M!!! views on Instagram, started a trend, and got featured on the Today Show. Saigon Alley Cafe Even local businesses can use social to drive more awareness and business. Saigon used some shock factor to drive Fourth of July business! Saigon drove 3.3M views and a ton of engagement. tbh Skincare tbh started a trend in June with a new social carol that was memed relentlessly on social (unfortunately a lot of it was sexist and uncalled for). They leaned into the meme while addressing some of the sexist comments they received head-on. They got a ton of views, but more importantly, they were able to build a community of others who might have also dealt with similar comments and related to the team at tbh skincare.

    ⚠️ BeReal Just Got Acquired for $500M ⚠️ BeReal is a less “media” and more “social” social media app. Personally, it’s become the only social app I use daily. Here’s some of the unique features it unlocked: 1. Everyone gets the notification ⚠️ 2 minutes to capture a BeReal and see what your friends are up to! ⚠️ , and is supposed to post at the same time (RIP the infra team) 2. Displaying the number of retakes to your friends. This was meant to promote authentic, unfiltered pics 3. Using both cameras at the same time to create double sided picture The downside of being more “social” and less “media” is difficulties monetizing. BeReal recently started including brand and influencer following and networks in a move towards monetizing, but Time Spent per DAU is rock bottom compared to social giants. This was reflected in the value per active user - while BeReal raised its Series B at $100 per active user, the acquisition prices them at $10 per active user. Follow me on BeReal at @apmadhani

    Do you feel like social engagement has been down? There's a reason for that. ⤵ Brands weren’t posting *less* last year on average. But from 2022 - ‘23, content engagements went down, according to The Content Benchmarks report. Why? Think about it: consumers’ feeds are overloaded, and they’re more discerning with what posts get their attention and reactions. To bring engagements up, you need to know what makes you stand out. 💡 Here are a few tips from our Content Benchmarks Report: 1️⃣ Prioritize creating original content. Trends will give you a boost, but original content makes you memorable and unique in the feed. 2️⃣ For an authenticity boost, feature co-workers and customers in your content. We found that consumers want to see front-line employees, the social team and customers on brand social channels. 3️⃣ ID the formats that work. We found that while many brands are posting mostly single-image posts on Instagram, short-form video is what consumers want to see. See what formats work best for *you,* and prioritize them.
