Today we're proud to throw it back to some of our fieldhouses and recreation centers! From the Blue Springs Fieldhouse that we recently renovated and is now part of the Carson Ross Community Recreation Center, including Blue Surf Bay Aquatic Center, to the Columbia Fieldhouse that current is under construction with Phase 2 that will double it's capacity from four courts to eight! These projects all have one thing in common: They all anticipated strong use for tournament play as well as community participation. Each of these had different problem sets but sought to maintain a healthy financial bottom line along with providing expanded opportunities for wellness and recreation. Enjoy a quick snapshot of each of these facilities! We're proud to have been part of their original design and expansion projects!

SFS is excited to celebrate today with the City of Overland Park and the Overland Park Fire Department as they dedicate the reconstructed Fire Station 41 located at 7550 W 75th Street. SFS designed the new 16,000 square foot, 4-bay, 3-company station to replace the original Fire Station No. 41 after it served the community for 50 years. The station includes a two-level fitness facility, gender-neutral bathrooms, accommodations for Johnson County MedAct, and private sleeping rooms with direct access to 3-shift lockers. Additionally, a photo-voltaic system will provide 75% of the station’s electrical consumption. #drivenbyconnections #overlandparkkansas #firestationdesign City of Overland Park Johnson County MED-ACT McCownGordon Construction Olsson Bob D. At SFS, our mission of enriching communities extends well beyond architectural services. Last week, in observance of Juneteenth, our staff prepared meals for families lodging at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City while they receive treatment at Children's Mercy Hospital. In 2023, the organization served 5,931 families with sick children and saved them over $6 million in lodging and meal costs. Last week, the City of Wichita Kansas broke ground on the expansion of the Carl G. Brewer Community Center. The renovated and expanded community center, named for the City’s 100th and first-elected African American mayor, Carl Brewer, includes a new state-of-the-art gymnasium, new multi-purpose studio, locker rooms, a dining area accommodating up to 150 occupants, a meeting room accommodating up to 50 occupants, and lounge and administration spaces. The building will also receive a new roof, updated heating and air conditioning, and renovated bathrooms. SFS served as architect-of-record and implemented a public art program for the project. We are honored to be a part of this important update to a central part of Wichita’s urban core. https://lnkd.in/gQwfEaCx #drivenbyconnections #wichitakansas #communitycenter #architectureanddesign Eby Construction Company MKEC Engineering, Inc. We tested it out … the new and improved Shawnee Mission Park Marina is ready for you! 🚣♂️ A ribbon cutting was held last week in celebration of the renovation of the iconic Shawnee Mission Park Marina, which reopened to the public last summer. SFS Architecture provided architectural services to restore and rehabilitate the existing marina building, to expand its ticketing and staff operations, and to construct new boat storage and restroom buildings. #drivenbyconnections #shawneemissonks #marinadesign #parksandrecreation

Bishop Johnston has named the new Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception facility the Bishop Hogan Center after the first bishop of the diocese. The event space will be named for Father Donnelly, the church's first pastor. On Sunday, June 16, Bishop Johnston will be blessing the new facility in Donnelly Hall. This is the feast day of St. Francis Regis, which was the name of the first church on Kansas City’s “The Hill” in the 1830s. The new 19,000 square foot, two-story building expansion for the Cathedral’s iconic campus will serve as a new central hub and venue for events accommodating up to 400 people. Subdivided, it provides meeting spaces for the diocesan to host small events. Spectacular views of downtown Kansas City can be seen from the event hall. #drivenbyconnections #kansascity #goldcathedral #kcgolddome #worshiparchitecture
