Former patient Peter and his brother Aaron found their calling in wheelchair basketball during rehabilitation at Shriners Children's Chicago Children. Peter trained for the 2024 Summer Paralympics with his teammates from The University of Alabama. Now Peter is an alternate for the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris. Helmet therapy is used to treat babies with abnormal head shapes. This therapy involves the use of lightweight, padded helmets to gently redirect the growth of the skull into a more natural shape. Butterfly release day and it's a sight to behold! Our recreation department grew butterflies and our patients have been eagerly watching the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly patients were able to see each step of the butterfly cycle transformation, which included releasing them in our backyard!🦋

It may still be summer but the upcoming school year is right around the corner! We'd like to thank Chicago firm Topel Forman, for helping both patients and parents get ready for the big first day, with their annual Back To School giveaway party. We're glad the certified public accounting firm makes philanthropy part of their mission and for their staff who attend. #backtoschool

We welcomed back the annual Child Life & Recreation Therapy backyard picnic this week. Patients, families, and staff enjoyed a DJ, Jaime the Magician, a pie-eating contest, and more. Thanks to generous organizations & volunteers and our recreation therapy/child life department who made this event happen, and also thanks to MOJO & The Bayou Gypsies for providing live music.
