    Are we going to begin to see layoffs at the C-level over the next 18 months? A shift in revenue spend, prioritizing technology, could be the catalyst. “Four in 10 executives are planning a major restructuring of their firm’s operating model in the next 12 to 18 months — up from 24% last August, according to Big Four firm PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Pulse Survey released Tuesday. While staff reductions might occur as companies reallocate resources, headcount cuts aren’t the focus, Venky Jayaraman, a partner at PwC, told CFO Dive. Instead, firms are making operating model changes to boost productivity and grow revenue. Technology is the biggest factor influencing organizational changes, he said, with some 51% of executives saying they’ll invest in new technologies — including generative AI — in the next 12 to 18 months, according to the survey. Margin compression is one of the key drivers for operating model reorganization, Jayaraman said. Companies are “seeing the increases in cost are much higher than the increases in revenue,” he said, noting that’s a result of higher labor and product component costs. “Margins are getting squeezed.” - Suman Bhattacharyya, Newsient Thoughts?     The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics just dropped the following statistics for May. 📈 “The unemployment rate rose to 4%, the highest jobless level since January 2022, yet 272,000 jobs were added in May. Economists had expected the rate to remain unchanged from April's 3.9%. Most of the jobs in May were added in healthcare (68,000), government (43,000), and leisure and hospitality (42,000). Average hourly earnings in May were also higher than expected, rising 0.4% month-over-month and 4.1% year-over-year.” Thoughts? 🧐 Is anyone surprised that we haven’t yet seen a rise in AI related roles? Those are still to be seen as companies begin to shift their focus. The industries that saw the majority of the new jobs are the same industries that were forecasted to see the increases in 2024.
