🌀 June is National Ocean Month in the US. It’s also the start of the Atlantic hurricane season. Last year’s hurricane season ranked fourth for the most-named storms in a year since 1950. 🌐 The NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration predicts another extremely active season — but hurricanes aren't the only concern this summer. 🌎 The climate crisis is making extreme weather events more frequent and more intense. This applies in particular to heat waves and cold waves that continue to make heavy rainfall events (as well as drought periods) more severe. 🔷️ We must acknowledge that we are building our climate justice movement in the face of an unprecedented climate reality. And because of this, we must also engage extreme weather preparation as a key strategy in staying safe and minimizing climate impacts for those on the frontlines. ⬇️ Use these hurricane preparedness tips to help keep you and your community safe this hurricane season: 1. Be weather ready ⛈️ 2. Sign up for notifications 📲 3. Create a communications plan ✍️🏾 4. Practice your plan 📝 5. Prepare your home 🏠 6. Help your neighbor 🫱🏾🫲🏽 #hurricane #hurricaneseason #hurricaneprep #hurricanepreparedness #worldoceanmonth #wechoosenow #taprootearth

🔥 "This is the most substantive and consequential call yet for the Justice Department to take action against Big Oil companies for their ongoing and catastrophic campaign of lies." — The Center for Climate Integrity 👏🏾👏🏾 More of THIS! Dismantling the power extractive oil industries have over our people, our planet & our economy must begin with ACCOUNTABILITY. For too long, our climate and communities have been playgrounds for Big Oil. #WeChooseNow to say no more.

🔈In just a short time, conservative leaders across the country have initiated aggressive legislative campaigns aimed at rolling back protections for our most vulnerable communities. This is especially true in the #GulfSouth and #Appalachia. Their efforts include everything from removing environmental protections to flagrant attacks on bodily autonomy, and consolidation of power to private interests groups. So, how can we fight back? One way is by learning their game and beating them at it. Join us for Taproot Earth's new #StatesofPlay webinar series where we'll host meaningful discussions with frontline leaders as they provide insight into the current political and policy landscapes of key states: Louisiana, Texas, Kentucky & Pennsylvania. We'll also discuss practical solutions communities can use to combat the impacts of rising authoritarianism in their neighborhoods. Find more information and register for our first States of Play Webinar where we will discuss the latest happenings in Louisiana with Deep South Center for Environmental Justice's Monique Harden, Esq., The Water Collaborative's Jessica Dandridge-Smith, MA, Voters Organized to Educate's Bruce Reilly, J.D., and Commissioner Davante Lewis, Monday April 29 at 2pm CST! RSVP now and #share with your networks! bit.ly/STATESOFPLAY_LA #WeChooseNow #StatesofPlay #LocalLegislationNationalImpacts #webinar #louisiana #texas #kentucky #pennsylvania #climatejustice #policy #legalwebinar #TaprootEarth

"We can build a world that upholds the rights of everyone to have clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and no more abandoned wells and pipelines in the oceans. However, that world does not include additional fossil fuel extraction." Our National Policy Director Kendall Dix gave testimony at a Congressional offshore oil and gas hearing earlier this week.
