I started this week in DC at the Jobs for the Future (JFF) Horizon's conference along with some of justice tech colleagues (shout out to amazing panels from folks like Ken O. and Perfecto Sanchez), but one of the most exciting events for me was to hear three Village Capital alumni across my three main focus areas pitch! 🏥 Health Equity: Eric Alvarez with Grapefruit Health who was in our 2022 Innovations in Health Equity program with Johnson & Johnson and California Health Care Foundation 🌿 Climate/Environmental Justice: Kala Fleming with Frontline Gig who was in our 2023 Dream Climate Tech Launchpad with Dream.Org and Salesforce Foundation. ⚖ Justice Tech: Andre P. with Untapped Solutions (Formerly ConConnect) who was in our 2022 Innovations in Justice Tech program with American Family Insurance Institute for Corporate and Social Impact and Dream.Org. So proud of these companies and excited to see our alumni continuing to scale and impact so many people!

“By providing vital catalytic capital, we are not just leveling the playing field; but setting the stage for women entrepreneurs to build resilient, scalable businesses.” Delve into our latest investments in Farm.IO Limited, which champions climate-resilient farming in Ghana, and Closet Official, a second-hand fashion rental marketplace based in Pakistan, highlighting how these startups contribute to their respective countries’ environmental and economic improvements. We recently announced our investment in Farmio and Closet through the Women in Tech Financing Facility managed by Village Capital for the Standard Chartered Bank. Launched in 2023 to support alumni of the Futuremakers program, this initiative addresses the stark investment gap for women-founded startups, which receive less than 3% of total capital globally. We’re thrilled to announce two new investments as part of our Reducing Inequalities Investment Facility, backed by FMO - Dutch entrepreneurial development bank’s MASSIF Fund: Kenyan startup AquaRech LTD and Nigerian startup CoAmana.
