Basic Function

Under administrative direction, and reporting to the Senior Director of Special Education, the Assistant Director will lead. This role involves developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating operational and instructional strategies for assigned programs. The Assistant Director will supervise and support professional educators, manage operational activities, staff, and budgets, and ensure compliance with the District's Racial Equity Policy to provide equitable access to high-quality education for every student.

Representative Duties

Inclusive Practices Leadership:

Collaborate on district-wide systems and structures to support inclusive practices.

Oversee staff development, curriculum planning, and instruction in partnership with licensed staff and administrators.

Manage department budgets and ensure resources are utilized effectively.

Develop and implement policies for identifying and serving students with disabilities.

Interpret and implement state and federal legislation related to Special Education and 504 programs.

Instructional Leadership

Coach and collaborate with administrators on innovative instructional methodologies for students with disabilities.

Contribute to the development and evaluation of integrated special education programs.

Advocate for students with disabilities on cross-functional teams and committees.

Lead program improvement plans focused on integrated special education services.

Evaluate and enhance special education programs to support student achievement.

Communication And Stakeholder Engagement

Articulate the mission, vision, and values of the special education program.

Cultivate collaborative relationships with administrators, employees, parents, and community members.

Advocate for students with disabilities in various forums and activities.

Represent the district and schools at meetings, workshops, and conferences.

Professional Team Growth

Support administrators and staff in implementing policies and professional development.

Supervise and mentor department staff to achieve program objectives.

Build and lead a diverse program team.

Provide coaching and counseling to staff as needed.

Assignment Specific

Represent the district in meetings, workshops, and professional activities.

Utilize District IT systems for performance management and compliance.

Lead compliance efforts with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and ADA-II.

Provide training to district staff on 504 and ADA-II processes and regulations.

Maintain records and systems for 504 and ADA-II compliance.

Employment Standards

Knowledge of:

Federal and State laws regarding education programs for students with disabilities.

Special education finance, budgeting, and accounting.

K-12 education laws, policies, and guidelines.

District labor organizations and collective bargaining agreements.

Research-based instructional strategies and models.

Effective leadership and management techniques.

Data collection and progress monitoring methods.

District organization, operations, and objectives.

Emerging technologies in education and business.

Ability To

Manage systemic change to improve educational outcomes for students with disabilities.

Monitor and evaluate program progress to meet intended outcomes.

Build a culture of equity and student-centeredness.

Direct, supervise, and evaluate programs and staff.

Advocate for racial equity and implement relevant policies.

Plan and pursue professional development for self and staff.

Operate computer technologies and related software.

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Education And Experience

State of Oregon issued Administrative License required.

Minimum three years of PK-12 education experience, including one year in a leadership role.

Experience in Special Education, 504 administration, or ADA-II compliance preferred.

Experience in diverse school environments highly desirable.

Special Requirements

Valid driver's license and access to a personal automobile may be required.

Some evening and weekend work may be necessary.

Classification And Salary

Position classified as Assistant Director - Academic Programs.

Salary range: $145,939 - $157,161.

Full-time employment (1.0 FTE) for 260 days.

Exempt status under FSLA.
