Buyer

The Buyer is responsible for procuring and negotiating prices for our company.

This position has the following duties:

• Ensure that product and supplies needed for operations, production and sales are obtained on time.
• Write, place and negotiate purchase orders/blanket purchase orders when appropriate and monitor cost.
• Negotiate with vendors to obtain products and supplies at the best price, seeking price quotes from multiple vendors and negotiating to secure the lowest price available on goods of comparable quality. Request samples when applicable.
• Set and maintain inventory level goals. The goal will be to maintain a minimum inventory level and dollar amount while meeting operational needs.
• Work with company departments to determine supply needs and timelines.
• Develop new vendor relationships.
• Monitor and review vendor performance, address problems that arise, such as items being out of stock, shipments arriving late or quality issues.
• Ensure products purchased must meet company specifications and quality standards.
• Works closely with Receiving Department to ensure proper supplies arrived and credits or deductions applied when items are to be returned.
• Improve knowledge with continual education.
• Experience with EXCEL.
• Knowledge of SAGE 100 (MAS) preferred.
• Other duties as assigned.
