About This Position

The Consulting Manager is responsible for leading teams of service professionals toward profitable and sustained high-quality delivery of services to customers. A Consulting Manager is responsible for developing and managing the overall customer experience when selecting clients including delivering projects on time/on budget, expanding business opportunities, and leading delivery teams. The Consulting Manager will help identify, develop, close, and successfully manage client opportunities including management of deal structure and profitable delivery supervision. The Consulting Manager is responsible for ensuring that engagement work products and deliverables are of the highest quality to ensure client satisfaction. The Consulting Manager will also direct the business, technical, and personnel aspects of consulting engagements for a particular practice and assist with pre-sales efforts with existing and prospective clients.

Job Responsibilities

Overall Responsibilities

  • Own P&L responsibility for the practice as a whole, as well as for individual projects.
  • Understand key business drivers and demonstrate business acumen.
  • Direct and manage the overall and day-to-day business execution of client projects to ensure quality work products, solutions, and deliverables.
  • Manage relationships with clients, maintaining frequent and direct contact with client staff and senior-level executives.
  • Identify, define, develop, and implement techniques to improve engagement productivity, increase efficiency, mitigate risk, resolve issues, and achieve cost savings for our clients.
  • Share in client, practice, and performance management including project team management and the development of our team.
  • Manage consulting engagement execution, resources, and bench time.
  • Monitor and direct others to act in accordance with company initiatives, processes, and methodology.

Client Satisfaction

  • Proactively seek/create opportunities to participate in client interactions to ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction are achieved.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet and/or exceed client expectations.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with key client/partner/stakeholders to ensure effective communication channels exist and client/partner satisfaction is achieved.
  • Implement communication strategies with clients to effectively promote team accomplishments and review project status/delivery milestones on a regular basis (written status reports, client meetings, conference calls, etc.)
  • Implement ongoing processes to maintain customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure that the practice retains 100% of plan customers (no Reseller of Record defections)
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of client business needs and position yourself as a key decision-making partner.
  • Manage project budget(s) to meet or exceed parameters of project scope; proactively communicate changes of delivery status to client and management.

Business Development

  • Oversee the structuring of consulting engagements and support contracts to ensure they are properly scoped to meet the customer’s requirements and profitability.
  • Lead efforts in building the overall client relationship in existing accounts including relevant pre-sales activities, building senior management client/partner relationships, qualifying projects, understanding requirements, delivering presentations and proposals, and closing new business.
  • Identify and position opportunities outside the scope of current engagement.
  • Develop proposals for new/follow-on business.
  • Work with senior management and account team to develop and implement pricing strategy for new engagements.
  • Executes the sales strategy in conjunction with the senior management team and/or Account Manager (AM) assigned to manage the client relationship. Specific responsibilities to be outlined by management as part of the overall account plan.
  • Become a trusted advisor and key strategic development point of contact with clients.
  • Ability to identify and convert client business goals and objectives into solutions.

Delivery

  • Direct delivery of all projects in a defined area; ensuring projects are completed at or ahead of schedule, costs are managed to budget, and customer expectations are exceeded.
  • Promote value billing and efficiency in service delivery.
  • Develop subject matter expertise on practice products and serve as an escalation point for any implementation issues.
  • Advise teams on maintaining timelines. Provide leadership and direction to consulting teams in project delivery.
  • Provide guidance or direct consulting teams to appropriate resources regarding key project issues and questions.
  • Manage resource placement and allocation on projects.
  • Report project status and other relevant business metrics to senior management on a regular basis and/or as required (utilizing written updates, conference calls, etc.) Oversee achievement of several scorecards and key performance indicators directly or through collaboration with other roles in services, sales, and marketing. These include Contribution Margin, Customer Satisfaction Index, Employee Satisfaction Index, Service delivery and operations metrics, and other financial KPIs.
  • Provide timely timesheet approval and invoice review.
  • Facilitate the building of team skills to meet criteria of current and future client delivery needs.

Manage and Develop Team

  • Be responsible for personnel management (hiring, utilization, development)
  • Effectively build, develop, and manage a team of consultants at client site(s)
  • Regularly perform 1:1s with direct reports to provide feedback.
  • Partner with senior management to provide career path planning and coaching to ensure consultant job satisfaction and professional growth.
  • Maintain a low attrition rate and promote high team morale.
  • Partner with senior management to facilitate placement/allocation of consultants and project staff.
  • Complete annual performance reviews and informal/formal performance review processes and relevant feedback as needed.
  • Demonstrate ability to work well with subordinates and managers.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, quality assurance, or equivalent, is required.
  • Advanced degree preferred.

  • A consulting background with a record of delivering complex technical solutions within defined timeframes and budgets.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Strong business expertise, keen understanding of business needs, and ability to ensure technical solutions, strategies, practices, and governance deliver business and customer value.
  • More than ten years’ experience working with technical applications, or equivalent, including strong knowledge of process methodologies.
  • Successful track record of delivering on agreed upon business objectives and performance on key metrics.
  • Experience in team management, scheduling and budgets.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project
  • Knowledge of SharePoint preferred.
  • Deep understanding of consulting, practice products and the business of relevant clients/partners, including:
  • Business acumen (client business drivers)
  • Sales and Marketing
  • Financial analysis (e.g., ROI & TCO)
  • Problem solving
  • Prior experience with pre-sales activity or account planning is desirable.
  • Understands consulting as a business, demonstrates competency (or capacity to be successful) in the ability to translate customer/business requirements into business solutions and successfully position with customers.
  • Understands (or is capable of learning) corporate financial practices and principles.

Base Salary Range

Base salary range: $125,000 to $150,000

This position is also eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the Company’s plan.
