Responsibilities

  • Leads medium-to-large estimates or components of large estimates, taking responsibility for the specific scope of work.
  • Develops win strategies and conducts in-depth analysis of contract documents and specifications to determine and validate project requirements.
  • Ensures comprehensive quantity take-offs of all labor, equipment, and materials from project documents, identifying any missing information.
  • Develops conceptual estimate proposals and presentations to support construction management and design-build pursuits.
  • Supports the estimate lead by populating tender forms, generating requests for information, anticipating proposal needs, and helping to establish a pursuit schedule.
  • Conducts risk and opportunity analyses by reviewing all bid-related documents and leveraging project and industry knowledge.
  • Assists with bid document control by documenting, organizing, and archiving all estimate-related information for successful transfer to the project team.
  • Performs bid-day assignments and supports other estimators to successfully close various scopes.
  • Coordinates with internal departments and external stakeholders to create site logistics plans, schedules, execution plans, and project budget requirements.
  • Prepares and presents final cost estimates and tender submissions to the chief estimator and district management for review and approval before client submission.
  • Establishes a critical path schedule for the estimate/pursuit and reviews work completed by estimators on the pursuit.
  • Leads a team, providing mentoring and coaching to direct and indirect reports.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in a related discipline, trade experience, or equivalent.
  • 8 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating, with 6–12 months of preferred on-site experience.
  • Successfully led pursuits valued up to $150 million in various delivery methods.
  • Knowledge of different construction methods, including planning, scheduling, sequencing, quality, safety, and timelines.
  • Extensive understanding of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity takeoff procedures, systems, subtrade partner procurement, pricing, interdepartmental functions, general expense philosophy, and bid-closing procedures.
  • Familiarity with compensation models, market conditions, business trends, internal historical information, and competitors to develop winning strategies.
  • Experience in estimating multiple scopes and building conceptual estimates.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with stakeholders, including soliciting subtrade partners and suppliers.
  • Proficiency in estimating software, advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, and a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.



The pay range for this position is $110,000 to $160,000 annually, based on experience and background.
