The Fire Protection Engineer functions as a technical leader and is required to have a Fire Protection Professional Engineer (PE) license and commensurate work experience. This position will coordinate overall design activities, project submission schedules, and will be responsible for additional Quality Assurance and Quality Control duties to help ensure the final products meet the technical requirements and goals of the client.
Responsibilities:
Determine design criteria for various design/build and plan/spec projects.
Design and hydraulically calculate complete sprinkler and standpipe systems using AutoSPRINK software.
Coordinate design with other building trades.
Review, comment, and approve fire protection plans and calculations of Company designers. Communicate with project managers and internal teams to ensure all client and Company specifications are met.
Required Skills:
Experience in developing building code concepts and equivalencies, conducting building plan reviews, and conducting field reviews/inspections.
Ability to present clear and technically sound fire protection engineering strategies.
Experience managing small teams across multiple projects, securing deliverables and meeting deadlines within budget requirements.
Build and establish strong working relationships with others (internal and external) and other departments, trades, and customers.
Thorough knowledge of NFPA, government fire safety standards and FM Global Datasheets.
Proficient in AutoSPRINK, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office software
Capable of performing hydraulic calculations and experience with 3D BIM coordination
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications for Fire Protection Engineer:
Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan
NCEES Record and willing to apply for additional state licenses
5 years of fire sprinkler design experience
Valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain it
Travel Requirements for Fire Protection Engineer:
Some overnight travel required.
Work Location Options for the Fire Protection Engineer:
1) Mt. Morris, MI office 5 days a week
2) Hybrid working 3 days a week in Mt. Morris, MI and 2 days remotely
