About The Role
The Athletic is ambitiously expanding its coverage of sports leadership and personal development. We need an energetic and passionate producer with a strong background in journalism to lead our initiative in this leadership space. This job would oversee the launch of a new coverage area encompassing podcasts, video, newsletter and more. The successful candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment while bringing a creative vision of how to elevate and distinguish our content as well as the ability to identify and develop ideas that will generate commercial revenue.
This a remote job based in the United States or Canada.

Responsibilities
- Provide a big-picture, conceptual vision for our sports leadership and personal development coverage that will extend well beyond traditional coverage in the space to attract new audiences in sports leadership and personal development.
- Expand coverage beyond digital text formats, including through podcasts, video, newsletters, live events and social platforms.
- Manage high-end talent, staff of producers, and contributors to ensure they are reaching their potential and doing their best work
- Understand the competitive landscape and identify new talent and opportunities
- Work throughout the newsroom to draw out the best leadership and personal development coverage across all sports
- Collaborate with the Creative Development and Commercial teams on new revenue opportunities outside of the daily report
- Work to bring a distinctive, compelling, and authentic voice to content on all platforms
- Confident making decisions in fast-paced and competitive space
- Coordinate staffing assignments, editorial resources and process. Maintain an updated and accurate forward-looking editorial budget
- Assure all productions maintain The Athletic’s editorial standards
- Direct and guide best-in-class technical executions of audio and video content
- Edit and publish stories/podcasts via WordPress and other content management systems
- 8+ years managing production for a professional media or production company
- Track record with launching new audio & video franchises with large audiences
- Expert ability to generate ideas that result in audience growth and engagement
- Experience working cross-functionally in a large, complex organization
- An excellent leader who enjoys facilitating the personal development of colleagues
- Passion for the sports leadership and personal development space
- Strong attention to detail and highly organized
- Interest and knowledge across a range of different sports
