Head of Reinsurance

Our client, a rapidly growing Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance Managing General Agent (MGA) specializing in cat-exposed homeowners insurance, is seeking an experienced Head of Reinsurance to bring them to the next level.

The Head of Reinsurance will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the reinsurance program. This critical role will involve developing and executing reinsurance strategies to increase capacity and support growth objectives. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in negotiating property cat reinsurance programs and a deep understanding of and relationships in the reinsurance market.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement reinsurance strategies that align with our business objectives and risk management policies.
• Negotiate and secure reinsurance coverage with both traditional and alternative capital providers.
• Manage relationships with reinsurance brokers and partners to ensure favorable terms and conditions.
• Analyze reinsurance market trends and provide insights to the executive team for informed decision-making.
• Collaborate with underwriting, product, and technology teams to assess reinsurance needs and optimize program structures.
• Monitor and manage the performance of our reinsurance program, including tracking recoveries and managing claims.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices related to reinsurance.

Qualifications:

• At least ten (10) of experience in reinsurance, with a focus on property cat reinsurance (Property & Casualty re(insurance)).
• Existing property capacity (re)insurance relationships and credibility, with both the capacity providers and the (re)insurance brokerage community.
• Strong negotiation skills and a proven track record of successfully structuring and securing reinsurance agreements.
• Deep knowledge of reinsurance markets, trends, and products.
• Property program establishment and management including program operations oversight and P&L responsibility.
• Property underwriting training and experience, in particular with the building and risk management of CAT-exposed property programs.
• An energetic, driving performance-oriented personality with an entrepreneurial mindset, someone who recognizes the substantial long-term opportunity.
• Excellent analytical, financial modeling, and risk assessment skills.
• Strong leadership and relationship management abilities.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to various stakeholders.
