The Instructional Designer Position

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Organizational Performance, the Instructional Designer (ID) will work closely with the Organizational Performance and wider Human Resources teams. Primary collaborators will be the Leadership Development Facilitator, Learning Experience Coordinator, Human Resources Business Partners, and leaders and Subject Matter Experts from all departments and leadership levels.

This role is based remotely, but preference will be given to candidates living and working in the Houston, TX or Atlanta, GA metro areas. The ID will be accountable for creating courses and learning content in a variety of modalities for a wide audience, often with special focus on leaders. The creation of these courses and content will require a full development process including needs analysis, iteration, revisions, piloting, etc.

The Instructional Designer Responsibilities

The Instructional Designer will be expected to deliver on the following outcomes:

  • Accessible Content: Learning content organized and stored so that learners can quickly and easily access them. The content is designed to be digestible in small chunks as needed so that time and bandwidth are not obstacles to learning
  • Engaging Content: Learning content is designed in a wide variety of modalities and structures (documents, micro-learnings, videos, applications, experiences, eLearning, facilitator-led, etc.) so that learners engage at high levels and rate the content highly
  • Precise, Powerful Writing: Communications, learning summaries, and instructional content is written in a way that reduces cognitive load, matches the tone and text to the audience, and engages learners
  • Scalable Design: Content is created using today’s resources in a way that can be expanded and iterated as new technology and capabilities become available, enabling the team to rapidly expand content offerings over time
  • Measurable Impact: Courses and experiences are developed with specific learning objectives that allow knowledge transfer and return on expectations to be measured and communicated to stakeholders
  • Problem-Solving Mindset: Pressing performance and learning problems can be solved with solutions that fall outside the traditional “learning design landscape.”
  • Full-Scale Development: The design process produces fully executable learning experiences via strong gap/needs analyses, resourceful content development, and iterative testing and feedback loops



Minimum Requirements

  • 8+ Years in the learning/instructional design space, 4+ at mid- to large-size companies
  • Progressively balanced speed and deadlines with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
  • Courses designed with minimal to moderate guidance that produced measurable impact on knowledge or skills
  • Content designed in a wide variety of modalities – facilitated and eLearn courses, learning games, experiential learning, videos, job aids, application opportunities and more
  • Writing for a variety of audiences in precise, tonally appropriate text that reduces cognitive load, engages learners, and matches organization’s overall “voice”
  • Problems solved with innovative solutions outside the traditional learning products
  • Created content using a variety of tools such as Captivate, Storyline, Lectora, video creation/editing software, voiceover technology, graphic design platforms, assessment techniques and tools
  • Created impactful learning within a rapidly growing company with a fast pace and often-changing priorities
