POSITION: Mechanical Engineer Intern

LOCATION: Blackfoot, Idaho

Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineer Intern works in conjunction with Engineering Departments on a project basis. Projects may include revising and updating current equipment models or designing prototype models. The Intern will perform research, planning, designing, presentation, and implementation activities based on the project’s requirements. The Intern will act as the project manager is responsible for creating and maintaining timelines, organizing team meetings, and finalizing the project. The Intern will actively participate in the installation, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the project as directed by the project manager. Teamwork and customer service skills are vitally important as the Intern works directly and indirectly with customers, vendors, employees, supervisors and managers. Intern will demonstrate high levels of responsibility and accountability; working effectively and efficiently at all times.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

  • Assist Engineers with designing agricultural equipment using specified software and technology, based on the requirements provided by customer orders or suggestions, Sales staff, and Production Departments.
  • Provide meaningful, regular, and accurate communication to all parties involved in the project, such as Engineering and Production departments, vendors, customers, etc.
  • Ensure equipment safety and quality by calculating and confirming stress in critical design areas using standard engineering processes.
  • Benchmark, analyze, and compare current equipment models and prototype designs to industry standards, and be prepared to present findings to the project manager.
  • Present options of the project to the project team and/or upper management and find the best solution for Spudnik.
  • Provide cost justification for various products by providing complete and accurate bills of material.
  • Perform audits on jobs and projects for completeness and accuracy.
  • Be a top performer in workmanship, safety, and work ethics.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in Mechanical Engineering degree program.
  • Well-developed knowledge and understanding of mechanical principles and applications.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic, electric and electronic schematics.
  • Background in agricultural industry preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostic, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructional drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to effectively work with CAD systems, spreadsheets, word processing documents, and other applicable computer systems and software.
  • Ability to travel frequently on day trips and occasional overnight trips.

PAY: $15.00/HR up to 40 hours per week
