Job Description
SC Teacher Certification, Required
Willing to learn and become proficient in teaching the content tested on the GED Subtests (Reading, Writing, Math, Science & Social Studies)
Knowledge of effective test preparation and test taking strategies
Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional strategies for adult learners
Ability to analyze assessment data for instructional planning and delivery
Proficient in designing individualized and differentiated instruction for students in a multilevel classroom
Proficient in the use of technology and the ability to integrate technology into instruction
Ability to connect with adult learners (17 and older) from various backgrounds
Knowledge of effective student motivation and retention strategies
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to complete records and reports neatly, accurately, and in a timely manner
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
Compensation
$26/hr
Work Schedule
Up to 8 hours/week
Class time: Monday & Tuesday evenings, 4:30pm – 7:30pm
Up to 2 hours planning time each week (before or after class)
End of August – December; February – May/June
Able to attend additional trainings and professional development as required

Job Summary
The adult education instructor works with adults ages 17 and over in a multi-age/multi-level instructional environment to increase the learner’s basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics and/or to prepare the learner to pass the high school equivalency exam (GED). Instructors must be confident in their ability to instruct students in all levels of reading and mathematics (through Algebra 1) and to assist students in preparing for the Reasoning through Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematical Reasoning high school equivalency exams. Instructors analyze student and class TABE Test and GED Ready data on an ongoing basis and use this data to develop individualized instructional plans and small group and whole class instruction based on the students/classes identified needs and career goals.
