Description

Responsible for obtaining and maintaining third-party agency certifications (e.g., Underwriters Laboratories, ATEX, state certifications) for assigned product lines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participates in the Product Development Process as a Project Team Support Member, being involved with the DFMEA and DVP&R process, responsible for identifying and interpreting certification requirements, and planning and execution of agency certification tasks.
  • Develops certification test plans and oversees in-house certification tests. Determines which tests to conduct for certification. Writes test requests.
  • Evaluates the results of certification tests to determine product compliance. Compares results to standards and explains test results.
  • Interacts with certifying agencies to initiate and complete certification projects.
  • Prepares and submits certification test results/reports.
  • Reads, understands, and explains technical reports.
  • Manages programs for in-house agency certification testing and conducts internal audits to ensure compliance with program requirements.
  • Monitors Agency Standards activity for changes in requirements, and initiates product or certification updates as necessary to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains product certification records.
  • Provides support to manufacturing facilities for certification-related issues.
  • Assists certifying agency field inspectors with factory inspections, as applicable.
  • Champions regular documentation reviews to ensure compliance with requirements of Certification Files (e.g., Wetted parts lists, drawing specifications, materials, suppliers).
  • Reviews proposed engineering changes and requests for temporary deviations. Determines acceptability of such requests, and initiates certification updates when appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Understands the product specifications and functions and how to translate them into validation criteria.

  • Knows and understands relevant certifying agency standards, testing protocols, and certification procedures.
  • Able to plan and lead certification projects involving cross-functional team members.
  • Knows arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Knows and predicts physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and their applications to understand fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics; understands mechanical and electrical structures and processes.
  • Analyzes information and evaluates results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Identifies the underlying principles, reasons, facts, or information by breaking down information or data into separate parts.
  • Effectively communicates information and responds to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, the general public, and other employees of the organization.
  • Maintains confidentiality and uses discretion with business information.
  • Reads and understands documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Writes routine reports and correspondence.
  • Utilizes common-sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.
  • Deals with problems involving several known variables in situations of routine nature.
  • Plans the time, method, manner, and/or performance sequence of own work; may also occasionally assist in planning work assignments performed by others within a limited area of operation.
  • Frequently makes decisions of both minor and major importance, which may affect the work operations of other employees and/or clientele to a moderate degree.
  • Completes some moderately repetitive tasks.
  • Uses complex and noncomplex machines and equipment.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, materials science or a related field (required).
  • Three to five years of relevant experience.
  • Desirable experience would include the following:
    • Fueling industry certifications
    • Hazardous Locations, UL, ATEX, RoHS, and/or IECEx certifications
