Research And Development Scientist

Responsibilities:

• Define, develop, and deploy continuous improvement projects for manufacturing variances
• Order and gather ingredients from the production plant
• Shop for ingredients for ideation, samples, and presentations
• Prepare, execute, and ship customer samples
• Prepare R&D formula spreadsheets
• Maintain inventory of project ingredients
• Assist with plant trials, sensory, and shelf-life tests
• Conduct competitive and segregation analyses
• Build and maintain processes and products to specifications
• Participate in cross-functional team meetings
• Run formulation and new product development tests
• Troubleshoot R&D and processing issues from manufacturing variances
• Maintain the R&D project, formulation, and testing database
• Establish protocols for R&D testing and product evaluation
• Create a database for formulations, NFPs, and ingredient statements
• Ensure R&D testing complies with USDA guidelines
• Manage product specification forms and BRC compliance
• Implement R&D tests for cost savings, yield, and quality improvements
• Collaborate with Operations to identify product and quality improvement opportunities

Candidate Profile:

• 3-5 years of food science experience, specifically in meat products
• Bachelor of Science in Food Technology, Food Science, or a related field
• Basic knowledge of USDA regulatory criteria or willingness to learn
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Analytical skills (MS Excel)
