In addition, the Senior Director for Student Life has shared responsibilities with the Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students for planning and assessment, assessing and responding to the changing needs of students, matters related to student persistence and, activities/programming that celebrates and fosters understanding of inclusive excellence.

Fulfilling this role requires the Senior Director to be exceptionally attuned to the needs and experiences of all members of Lycoming’s increasingly diverse community and be adept at supporting and enhancing the campus experience of all with whom they work.

This is a one-year, full-time position that is benefits eligible. The chosen candidate must be available to work a variety of hours including evenings, weekends, and must have a valid US driver’s license.

Founded in 1812, Lycoming College is one of the nation’s oldest and most respected residential liberal arts and sciences colleges and is becoming increasingly recognized for the quality of its experiential programming and for students gaining the skills needed upon graduation in today’s world. Students partner with faculty in doing original research, thrive in a robust program of internships, study abroad in more than two dozen countries, and compete in 19 NCAA Division III sports. Lycoming College’s strong endowment per student provides the foundation to support a first-rate undergraduate education. What will I do in this role?

  • Collaborate with the Vice President and Dean of Students to provide leadership in the Division of Student Life, to create and maintain a supportive residential environment strongly integrated with the liberal arts mission of Lycoming College
  • Referral Management Team (persistence and retention)
  • Community Standards – administrative hearings, convene hearing board, investigations
  • Convene & Coordinate the Student Leadership Collaborative
  • Collaborate with staff to provide campus event planning and programming
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to provide campus programming to address high risks or socially vulnerable behaviors e.g., drug and alcohol, on-line gambling, on-line dating, social media
  • Responsible for completion of the College’s Biennial Drug Free Schools Act report
  • Responsible for coordinating the division’s planning and assessment
  • Serve as a resource for resolving student problems that are not adequately or able to be addressed elsewhere

What are we looking for?

Education Requirements Master’s Degree Required - Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or Equivalent Preferred.

Experience and Qualifications: Minimum of 7-10 years of post-graduate experience in higher education, including a working knowledge of student development theory, conduct administration, and program development/assessment. Strong collaboration and communication skills, both written and verbal. A working knowledge in areas of federal, state, and local law and regulation affecting higher education and student life. Strong organizational and time management skills are needed along with a keen ability to give attention to detail and accuracy. Incumbent must be able to work independently on assignments and projects as well as having the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. Knowledge of window-based applications is needed such as: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft PowerPoint, with the desire and ability to learn new software applications.

  • Demonstrates effective computer skills through knowledge of, and experience with, all Microsoft Office Suite programs; experience using email and internet; Previous knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications and web editing is helpful but not required, however, the desire and ability to learn new software applications is required
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team on assignments, duties, and projects
  • Demonstrates professionalism and contributes to fostering a positive work/learning environment
  • Demonstrates effective organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrates ability to give attention to detail and accuracy in all work
  • Demonstrates ability to produce a high quality and quantity of work
  • Demonstrates effective and professional interpersonal skills (listening, verbal/non-verbal and written communication skills) with a variety of people including students, faculty, staff, and the general public
  • Demonstrates effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills that is fair and equitable
  • Promotes a positive work environment and engenders staff enthusiasm
  • Skillfully manages individual, group and organizational interactions
