Cornell College invites applications for a full-time systems administrator. The systems administrator is responsible for the day-to-day management of campus client-server integrations, including network printing, malware detection systems, campus-wide software deployment, and lab/technology classroom computing. The position also assists with the day-to-day management of the network and server farm infrastructure and monitors security and network alerts as part of the network team.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage centralized software deployments to campus users, computer labs, and tech classrooms.
  • Manage campus software deployment using Active Directory, SCCM, and Azure
  • Assist with installation, monitoring, and support of the college network infrastructure, both wired and wireless.
  • Assist with installing, monitoring, and supporting the college enterprise server farm and virtual machines
  • Initiates and works with vendor technical support as needed.
  • Access management for several systems such as Google Workspace, Jira, and file servers
  • Investigate and test emerging hardware and software technologies.
  • Manages and renews software licensing across campus
  • Configures and maintains Citrix virtual applications
  • Acts as a tertiary escalation point for the Desktop Support team
  • Compile and maintain Disaster Recovery plan
  • Participate in long and short-term campus technology planning.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and maintain a log of services and times.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications And Education Requirements

Associate's degree in an appropriate computer-related field or equivalent technical certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco) and experience. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in systems administration, preferably in a higher education environment. Experience with administering server-based applications and services is required. Previous Cisco networking experience preferred. Experience with open source and Apple operating systems is a plus. Proficiency in managing Windows and Linux servers, virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, Citrix), and cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, and Google Workspace).

Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively communicate and interact professionally in various situations (in person and on the telephone). Must be able to manage own time, meet deadlines, set priorities, and work independently and as part of a team. Must know about computer networking, desktop operating systems, and software (specifically Windows Server, Windows Desktop, Mac OS, and Microsoft Office Suite). Ability to troubleshoot network connections and operating systems.

Preferred Skills

Experience with academic software and learning management systems. Knowledge of ITIL framework and best practices. Familiarity with scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python).

Working Conditions

Work may be performed while seated in an office, server room, network closet, and classroom. Requires walking outdoors in a variety of weather conditions to get from building to building. This position works in-person on campus.

The hiring pay range for this position is $58,000 - $65,000. Cornell College offers a fantastic benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, HSA & FSA accounts, a TIAA 403(b) retirement account, and tuition remission and exchange for employees and dependents. We also offer life insurance, disability insurance, travel insurance, and accident insurance. And, all full-time staff begin with a 4-week vacation accrual along with 14.5 paid holidays per year.
