Position Overview

Korn Ferry is conducting a VP, Corporate Accounting search for our client - a well-established national real estate investment and development firm that focuses on acquiring, developing, owning, and managing purpose-built facilities across the US. Headquartered in Denver, CO, our client has been recognized repeatedly as one of the top real estate developers in the US within their area of specialty.


Reporting to the EVP of Finance & Accounting and working closely with the CFO, the VP Corporate Accounting joins during an exciting time of growth. The VP will be responsible for overseeing and directing the Corporate Accounting functions of the organization, including the consolidation of its subsidiaries and real estate funds, partnerships, development projects and joint ventures with high net worth, family office, and institutional capital partners.


Responsibilities

  • Plan ahead and consistently meet and shorten the monthly Corporate consolidated financial closing deadlines, which includes the roll-up of consolidated assets, portfolios, real estate funds and operating subsidiaries.
  • Responsible for the quarterly corporate financial review package for internal review which includes financial statements, flux analysis, debt compliance and upcoming events, and other material financial information.
  • Manage the annual audit process; prepare for interim and audit field work and prepare and review workpapers and other diligence materials; research, understand and document complex technical issues including NCI, VIE, JV equity, GAAP and cost method accounting, etc.); oversee preparation of corporate financial statements and footnotes; serve as primary point of contact and relationship manager for external auditors.
  • Ensure proper cross-training, policies and procedures and strong overall internal controls.
  • Strategically manage treasury and cash management with financial institutions on behalf of the Company and its capital partners; maximize interest earned and minimize banking fees and overall risk.
  • Manage line of credit draws and repayments for the Company and its funds as part of overall cash management.
  • Work with the Finance department to update financial and cash forecasting models with monthly actuals; provide variance analysis between forecasted and actual results; assist with cash forecasting as needed.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of the Company’s internal financial presentation which is used to measure the Company’s annual performance and is used by the Company’s executive team as well as its Board of Directors.
  • Serve as point of contact for Company’s transfer agent and maintain track changes on unit holder registrar; oversee unit issuances and repurchases, investor mailings, distributions, etc.; respond to investor inquiries and requests as needed; oversee taking the transfer agent role in-house with Company’s investor relations software.
  • Oversight of Corporate loan compliance, financial covenant calculations and timely reporting for various lenders.
  • Oversee Corporate accounting system planning, strategy and conversion in 2024 from Timberline to MRI.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate and terminate staff as needed to maintain a best-in-class accounting department; manage workload and preparation and cross-training to maintain employee work/life balance.
  • Assist in overseeing the Company’s annual tax filings by working with EVP of Accounting as well as the Company’s third-party CPA firm.
  • Complete ad hoc analysis and projects as needed and continuously strive for ongoing betterment and improvement.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • CPA license is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an accounting leader in corporate real estate, and a total of at least 10+ years of accounting experience.
  • Development and property accounting experience, such as previously being a controller for a development company; detailed development accounting experience a strong asset.
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage direct reports and teams through complex and stressful transactions; manage and balance workloads and lead by example to earn and maintain the respect of subordinates.
  • Ability to see the “big” picture as well as able to dig into details and assist the team in detail level analysis.
  • Ability to produce highly accurate and timely output in a fast-moving environment and adjust priorities in response to changing Company directives and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and with sophisticated institutional capital partners.
  • Ability to seek out and assess common or recurrent problems and develop and implement effective solutions, policies & procedures.
  • Demonstrates high integrity, character and quality work ethic that inspires trust and credibility.
