At Insomnia Cookies, our goal is to “Imagine What’s Possible.” As we continue to strategically expand our footprint, we are adding a growth-focused People leader to optimize our HR practices and lead our Employee Relations team. Our VP of People & Culture will be based out of our headquarters in Center City Philadelphia and report to our SVP of People. Our VP of People & Culture will oversee people operations, internal investigations, total rewards and benefits, performance management, employee engagement, and organizational development. Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the People team and work closely with Operations and leaders in the Insomnia IWP Center (HQ) on various HR matters, organizational development, and performance management.
  • Lead the Employee Relations team in managing internal investigations and make recommendations for resolution in partnership with leaders across the organization.
  • Remain up to date on employment law through partnership with internal and outside counsel to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal laws. Partner with field leadership teams to ensure compliance with all Fair Work Week requirements.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures, including maintaining and updating the Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and other critical People-related policies.
  • Partner with Learning & Development leaders to build and launch trainings focused on professional development and foster a culture of living our values.
  • Lead performance management processes to drive continual feedback and growth, including by optimizing the review and appraisal process, calibrating performance ratings to ensure consistency and alignment across the organization, and developing coaching for people managers on effective performance management.
  • Inspire a culture of celebration, appreciation, and recognition at the IWP Center (HQ) and at the store level to drive performance and motivate our internal Insomniacs to “stay hungry.”
  • Review and recommend enhancements for Insomnia’s compensation and benefits programs aimed at attracting and retaining talent in the field and in the IWP Center (HQ).
  • Manage relationships with brokers, vendors, and consultants engaged to administer benefits and other programs and to augment the People team’s internal resources (e.g., by recommending vendors, negotiating proposals, overseeing scopes of work, and evaluating vendor performance).
  • Oversee various HR policies and processes, including employee leaves of absence, worker’s compensation, and unemployment.
  • Guide the team in developing and maintaining SOPs and playbooks on all People policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Work across the IWP Center and bakery teams to drive employee engagement, retain key talent, and support leaders in shaping and reinforcing a workplace culture that aligns with Insomnia’s core values.


Desired Skills & Qualifications

  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience as a Senior People/Human Resources Leader in a rapidly growing multi-unit company.
  • Experience working in a retail or QSR environment preferred, but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • A-PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification highly preferred.
  • Experience creating scalable, innovative, and pragmatic solutions to serve the needs of both a corporate HQ setting and a retail store environment.
  • Experience developing and implementing People policies and procedures in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to build strong relationships among team members and with functional leaders, key stakeholders, and external vendors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across various functions and levels of the company.
  • Ability to self-start and stay nimble, especially in taking initiative, prioritizing, and problem-solving.
  • Strong business and financial acumen.
  • Intellectual curiosity, resourcefulness, integrity, and a highly motivated, energized attitude that inspires confidence in the People team!
