“We become our best selves when we surround ourselves with people who want to see us flourish.” - Margaret Frothingham
Thank you for helping so many of us flourish every day Sanyin! 🙏
We've found time and time again that networking is THEE most powerful tool in the job search and job progression. But often...individuals miss the point when they're trying to "get" a job or a connection. An executive leadership coach once told me, "Networking is selflessly helping another person because you care."❤️
Harvard Business Review captured that in this article wonderfully!

Joanna Shea, the founder of 3P Energy Consultants, connected with UBC’s #MEL and #MHLP students to share her expertise in building strong professional relationships.
Long-term professional relationships are the goal of #networking. If they are not already, everyone should begin to network to connect with people they hope to work with and companies they wish to work for.
In her presentation, she outlined three general groups of contacts that you should be connecting with. She also emphasized how networking should be somewhat organic — if you meet someone and form a genuine connection, you should continue building that relationship by checking in with them regularly and following up with them.

Effective networking is not a quick fix or a mere transaction; it is a strategic, long-term process akin to farming. It requires effort, patience, and a genuine interest in building and nurturing relationships. Contrary to the common misconception that networking is all about talking, it is actually about putting in the work to establish meaningful connections.
In this bonus episode, Dr. Michael Koku shares the LIGHT acronym from his book, Five Keys for Effective Networking, to highlight the essential qualities for successful networking.
To be successful in networking, embody the following five qualities encapsulated in the acronym LIGHT:
*Love – Valuing People Different from You
Embrace Diversity: Effective networking begins with appreciating and valuing the differences in others. This means recognizing the unique strengths and perspectives that each person brings to the table. Love in this context is about empathy, respect, and genuine interest in others.
*Intentionality – Things Don’t Just Happen; Things Happen Just!
Be Purposeful: Networking is not a passive activity. It requires deliberate actions and a clear strategy. Setting goals and being intentional in your interactions ensures that your efforts are focused and productive. This intentionality transforms casual encounters into meaningful connections.
*Get-up-and-go (Energy or Drive) – Initiate the Networking, Great Leaders Initiates!
Take Initiative: Networking requires proactive effort. This means reaching out, following up, and staying engaged. Your energy and drive will set the tone for your networking efforts, showing others that you are committed and enthusiastic about building relationships.
*Humility – Thinking of Yourself Less So You Can Think of Others More
Practice Humility: Effective networking is not about self-promotion; it's about building genuine connections. Humility allows you to listen more, understand others’ needs, and offer help without expecting anything in return. This selflessness fosters trust and makes your network more willing to support you.
*Time – Networking Is Not About Hunting or Fishing; It Is About Farming!
Invest Time: Building a strong network is a long-term investment. Just as farming requires time and patience, so does networking. Consistent and ongoing efforts to maintain and deepen relationships will yield significant benefits over time. #effectivenetworking#makingnetworkingimpactful#leadershipdevelopment#personalgrowth#relationship
Connections are so very important in work and life. However, networking can sometimes feel shallow and transactional.
If that's the case for you, focus more on what you put into relationships than what you can get out of them. You might be surprised at the change that occurs.
Good luck on your leadership journey!

Once upon a time, I was told not to bother chasing a lead because our channel couldn't facilitate what they wanted. I chased it anyway, fought to support it and won the biggest deal in the channel's history.
📈 This experience taught me that sometimes, it's essential to challenge the norms and believe in your instincts. Success isn't just about luck; it's about the relationships we foster and the value-added communities we build.
Some of our greatest selling is internally! Knowing who can support you and make big decisions while understanding your customers' needs helps you be their advocate as you influence your organizational leaders to get in the boat with you.
Throughout my journey, I've come to understand the incredible power of networking. It's not just about collecting connections; it's about creating meaningful relationships that can open doors you never knew existed. From landing job opportunities to uncovering hidden gems in the market, relationships and effectively influencing are supremely valuable.
My journey has been a fusion of unconventional choices, networking triumphs, resilience building, and standing out in the crowd. So, if there's one thing I've learned, it's this: Embrace risks, cultivate relationships, learn from every experience, and dare to stand out and take big swings.
Success is a journey that's uniquely yours to craft.
