Taking diagnostics to grass root level is much needed in #animalhealth. Most of the times, Veterinarians in #LMIC depends on clinical symptoms for presumptive diagnosis. Such presumptive diagnosis, on most occasions, not accurate. But veterinary service is still ok and widely acceptable because the cases are cured. Sometimes diseases takes its course and animal recover. On other occasions, antibiotics are given as blanket approach. Such practice less realize the harm done to animal and #Onehealth. Animal suffer and do not get right treatment while unnecessary use of antibiotic may favour #AMR. This is the situation when only Vet practice is considered. One can imagine the stuation when vet paraprofessional practice is counted. There is a clear need of laboratory diagnosis of animal diseases before prescribing medicine for treatment.

🌟 It's time for a WesternU CVM ShoutOut!📣 Meet Dr. Maisie Dawes, Associate Professor of Immunology and Large Animal Internal Medicine here at WesternU CVM, as she talks about World Zoonosis Day. This day shines a light on zoonotic diseases (diseases that jump from animals to humans) and also commemorates the groundbreaking achievement of Louis Pasteur when he successfully administered the first vaccine for a zoonotic disease (rabies) in 1885. 👀 Did you know that 60% of infectious diseases in humans originate from animals? It's a significant statistic that underscores the importance of the work of the veterinarians, veterinary technicians and veterinary researchers who play a crucial role in preventing and managing these diseases. From rabies to avian flu, they are on the front lines, ensuring these diseases are kept at bay! 💪⭐️ Today, let's take a moment to celebrate the incredible work of veterinarians and veterinary researchers worldwide. We're not just caring for pets and livestock; we're making a difference in global health. Together, let's keep our planet healthy and our communities safe. One of the more contagious diseases found in poultry flocks is Marek’s disease. This disease can lead to tumours, immunosuppression, sometimes leading to leg paralysis and, in severe cases, it can be fatal. This disease can be difficult to diagnose, with methods of diagnosis including a combination of gross pathology, histopathology, and PCR. This means it’s important to vaccinate against the disease even if you’re unsure if the disease is present among a flock or not. To find out more about vaccinating against Marek’s disease and other common poultry diseases, speak to your MSD Animal Health UK poultry veterinary advisor today. #ScienceOfHealthierAnimals #PoultryHealth

Opinion: There is a better way to tackle infectious diseases that people and animals share. -Enter the concept of One Health. Baljit Singh, the dean of the University of Calgary's faculty of veterinary medicine, says the fight against animal-human diseases must include the co-ordination of experts from many fields A large percentage of infectious diseases — both existing and emerging — are zoonotic, meaning they originated in animals and jumped to humans. We need to recognize the inextricable links between people, animals and our shared environment — and infectious diseases that can kill. And we need to recognize that human medicine, veterinary medicine, public health policy and other disciplines must break out of their silos and work together against potentially catastrophic global health problems like the coronavirus. https://lnkd.in/fQzt3MR
