By actively involving them, we ensure a broader understanding of the real-world impact of our work. 2️⃣ Enhanced relevance at implementation: Patient engagement ensures that research aligns with the actual needs and priorities of those it aims to benefit. This not only enhances the relevance of our studies but also increases the likelihood of successful implementation of findings. 3️⃣ Empowerment and trust: Involving patients fosters a sense of empowerment and builds trust between researchers and the communities they serve. This trust is the bedrock upon which meaningful, sustainable healthcare advances are built. 4️⃣ Ethics: There is an ethical and moral imperative to acknowledge and respect the autonomy of individuals in matters that directly impact their health. Patient engagement promotes ethical research practices, ensuring that the rights and well-being of participants are at the forefront. 🚀 How can we boost patient engagement? 1️⃣ Accessibility: Ensure that opportunities are accessible, breaking down barriers to patient and public involvement in research. 2️⃣ Communication: Foster open and transparent communication channels, building enduring collaborative relationships. 3️⃣ Technology: Leverage innovative technologies e.g., to facilitate remote engagement, regardless of geographical constraints. 4️⃣ There is a growing body of research dedicated to answering this question and I am committed to following, (and leading where I can), the progress made in methodology research towards making patient engagement not just a checkbox but a fundamental ethos guiding our research endeavors. Our paper was selected as an Editor's Choice in Value in Health. The use of utilization management strategies to limit access to high-cost first-line treatments, such as step therapy, is a topic of debate. Employing cost-effectiveness analysis to compare a new first-line treatment with an existing one could inform such policies. However, this either-or, one-size-fits-all approach might not adequately address the complexities involved in policy implementation: e.g., treatment effect heterogeneity, administrative burden, and diverse patient preferences. So we explored whether the cost-effectiveness analysis framework could be refined to better reflect these complexities, thereby offering more nuanced policy guidance. https://lnkd.in/exxtTXxv
