H2SITE’s #AMMONIA to H2Power #technology for ammonia cracking onboard has received Approval in Principle (AiP) from Lloyd's Register (LR). The technology is an onboard containerized solution that produces #fuelcell-quality #hydrogen using ammonia. This hydrogen can then be used by #hydrogenfuelcells that can contribute to the vessel’s electrical power, or the hydrogen could be consumed directly in an internal combustion engine. We conducted a successful pilot at the Ashdod Port Company, transitioning an engine to use methanol with our dual-fuel system by #DorMotors. 🏗️ The gate crane at the port now operates on 70% #methanol and 30% diesel. After many hours of operation, we witnessed a savings of 300 liters of #polluting diesel per day! 𝟳𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗹. Lloyd's Register has analysed last year's #vessel orders and #fuel tech developments and seen #methanol engine retrofits as a 'defining trend'. 143 new construction #orders of methanol-capable vessels were placed in 2023. The new orders will increase the #global methanol-capable fleet to 227, LR said citing data from maritime consultancy firm Clarksons. U.S.-based #ammonia tech company Amogy has received a certification for its ammonia-to-power #technology, which converts liquid #ammonia into #hydrogen gas to power fuel cells in #vessels. The certification granted by classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) verifies the successful integration of the new technology in the #maritime sector. We’ve signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MAN Energy Solutions focusing on the development of a designated dual-fuel methanol engine. The MoU targets the finalisation of a field-test agreement based on which a dual-fuel engine and plant equipment will be installed on board one of our newbuilt tugs. It’s yet another step forward in our efforts to lead the decarbonisation of the global towage industry.   Kasper Karlsen, Global Chief Operating Officer, said: “At Svitzer, we’ve set ambitious yet realistic, long-term targets to decarbonise our operations. In 2023 alone, we reduced the CO2 intensity of our global fleet by 24%, and we’re committed to making further progress through the use of low-carbon fuels like methanol, innovative engine technologies, and continuous changes of behaviour.
