The World Health Organization released guidelines tailored to small water supplies. The guidelines focus on establishing health-based and context-appropriate drinking-water quality regulations and standards, proactively managing risks through water safety planning and sanitary inspections, and carrying out independent surveillance. WHO’s framework for safe drinking water, adapted from these guidelines, comprises three elements, namely ✅ developing regulations and standards that include health-based targets (e.g., water quality targets); ✅ undertaking water safety planning, which is a comprehensive and proactive risk assessment and risk management approach that includes all steps in the water supply chain (from catchment to consumer) and ✅ carrying out independent surveillance to ensure risk management practices are effective and health-based targets are being met. South Africa water quality collapses – beware the taps in these provinces The headline figure in the Blue Drop report – which contains a comprehensive assessment of all 958 water supply systems (WSS) in each of the 144 water service authorities (WSA) in the country – is that almost half the water supplies in South Africa fall below the 50% compliance score, and almost a third of these systems are in critical condition. In terms of water quality, 46% of water supply systems exhibit poor or bad microbiological water quality compliance – a massive deterioration from 5% in 2014. https://lnkd.in/dAYQ6Aqa

I have accomplished successfully an online course entitled with "Regulation in the water and sanitation sector based on the WASHREG methodology" on Cap-Net Virtual campus. This course was prepared by Cap-Net and SIWI to introduce the WASHREG approach, developed by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the World Health Organization (WHO), and to understand the elements involved in regulating the provision of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services that ensure effective, resilient and sustainable management.

WATER QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM Friday, 13 October 2023|Kingford Kalobi FZICA |FCCA | The quality of drinking water for human consumption is of utmost importance in the projection of public health. In order to ensure that such a high standard of the quality of piped drinking water is maintained, preventive measures such as the preparation role in the production and supply of drinking water. These plans must conform to certain standards and should meet certain requirements so that there is consistency in the monitoring, assessment, and risk management practices for the piped drinking water supply. To achieve water quality services comes at a great cost. The costs range from chemicals and reagents, energy costs, production, and distribution. For the continued supply of quality piped water, the public (households, commercial institutions and public institutions, and others ) should own their responsibility to pay for the water services according to the consumption demand. Next time you open that tap think about this process. #waterquality #water #wash #costrecovery #lifecyclecosting #publichealth #costofwater #sdg6 #sustainability #esg #cfoinsights #ceoinsights #waterengineering #financedirectors #charteredaccountants

Limited access to sufficient and quality water can heighten competition, potentially sparking or worsening conflicts within countries. The USAID toolkit "Water and Conflict" elucidates the link between water management and conflict risk factors. It offers guidance on integrating conflict considerations into water security, sanitation, and hygiene programs, with a dedicated section on best practices and strategies. The toolkit, inclusive of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) aspects, serves as a comprehensive guide for practitioners in the water sector, providing insights for designing more robust and conflict-sensitive interventions. #WSSH #watermanagement #SDG6 #humanitarianaid https://lnkd.in/dvyDuG_w

New paper on the implementation of RBAs in small water suppliers! 🎉 In this research, we explore the challenges, barriers, and possible solutions to implementing risk-based approaches (RBA) to ensure water safety and enhance compliance in small supplies. Drawing on the results of interviews conducted with both operators and regulators in each of the eight Nordic countries, we found that, while much improvement has taken place over the last few years, further actions are needed, especially in the development of tailored guidelines and additional investments in training. https://lnkd.in/d-Htgavj
