Meet the receivers of the Plant2Food grants: Immune SEEDstem. The Immune SEEDstem project strives to re-evaluate pulse protease inhibitors as unforeseen gut-beneficial immunomodulatory food ingredients (e.g., anti-inflammatory), key to prevent gut diseases. The goal of the Immune SEEDstem project is to explore the immune-boosting effects of protease inhibitors (PI) found in legume seeds, commonly known as pulses, to potentially safeguard against gut-related illnesses and promote overall immune balance. About two months ago, WUR got awarded three Plant2Food grants, of which ProPulse was one of the receivers. The Novo Nordisk Foundation-funded Plant2Food Programme is a collaborative 5-year programme between 3 Danish academic institutes and Wageningen University & Research, with a total budget of Euro 27 million. The Immune SEEDstem project has received a funding amount of 6.999.646 DKK. Immune SEEDstem is a collaboration between Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen and Wageningen University & Research, of which Kasper Hettinga is the lead. P1 and the main contact for the project - Iben Lykke Petersen, Associate Professor at Food Analytics and Biotechnology, University of Copenhagen. The companies involved in the project are SEGES Innovation with company partner Eva Bräuner Sørensen and 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 with company partner Jens Christian Sørensen. Fermentation is the key to achieving price parity with animal protein, but we need a lot of HUGE fermentation capacity to conduct continuous fermentation. Batch fermentation equipment designed for the pharmaceutical or nutraceutical industry won't cut it. Something truly designed for #FOOD is needed. As commented by our Co-Founder & CEO Eugene Wang, fermentation is only about 3-5 years away from commercial reality, but the only roadblock is the capacity available now. 🚀 📢 New open call: €300k grant for 3-5 projects of 2-3 partners in #FoodTracking, #PersonalizedNutrition and #ConsumerFoodChoices The main objective of #DRG4Food Open Call #1 is to enable the development and testing of responsible data-driven solutions in the food sector’s key areas: food tracking, personalized nutrition, and enhancing consumers‘ food decisions. The budget per experiment can range from €150,000 to €300,000, and financial support is divided between starting and advanced grants, taking into account factors such as duration, TRL level from start to end of the pilot, and travel requirements. Proposals must meet specific Technology Readiness Level (TRL) criteria. The TRL level at the time of submission should be a minimum of 4 or 5, and the proposed technology should have the potential to advance to TRL 7. The #DRG4Food program spans 6 to 12 months and is designed in a hybrid format, combining on-site activities and online sessions. The program is tailored to each pilot project, and the curriculum includes lectures, workshops, personalized expert mentoring and group coaching. Each pilot project is assigned an end-to-end Mentor to guide them through the program, set goals and track progress. (EN) 🌱🔬 Tetra Pak and Lund University launch new Biotech Heights research hub to drive innovation in alternative proteins and food production 🔬🌱 We at Tetra Pak are happy and proud to share the news of our collaboration with Lund University and the launch of Biotech Heights. Together, we strengthen Lund's position as a hub for research and innovation – a Nordic Silicon Valley. The new research hub will be an open innovation environment for developing sustainable food and material production through biotechnology – the entire journey from lab to new products. Our focus is on alternative proteins derived from fermentation and related processes around material production. With fermentation, the potential to produce large amounts of protein with a small carbon footprint is enormous. The partnership brings together Tetra Pak's expertise in food processing and Lund University and The Faculty of Engineering at Lund University, ranked in the top 100 universities in the world – which will strengthen the region as a centre for breakthrough food innovations.  🔬🌱 Together, we will shape a more sustainable future for the food industry.
