Update #2 on Peregrine Mission One:We continue to gather data and report our best assessment of what we see. The team believes that the likely cause of the unstable sun-pointing is a propulsion anomaly that, if proven true, threatens the ability of the spacecraft to soft land on the Moon. As the team fights to troubleshoot the issue, the spacecraft battery is reaching operationally low levels.

Pulsed plasma rocket (PPR): Shielded, fast transits for humans to Mars, Credit: Pixabay/CC0 Public Domain The future of a space-faring civilization will depend on the ability to move both cargo and humans efficiently and rapidly. Due to the extremely large distances that are involved in space travel, the spacecraft must reach high velocities for reasonable mission transit times. Thus, a propulsion system that produces a high thrust with a high specific impulse is essential. However, no such technologies are

Space X’s Raptor; Power for Mars Raptor is used in the Starship system in both the super-heavy-lift Super Heavy booster and in the Starship spacecraft which acts as the second stage when launched from Earth and as an independent spacecraft in LEO and beyond. Raptor 1 engines produce 185 metric tons of force and the Raptor 2 engines, which started production in November or December 2021, does 230+ tons or over half a million pounds of force.

We're excited to hear the latest from Muon Space, a Duro customer that's breaking boundaries. Its new integrated hardware and software stack, Muon Halo, will enable faster time-to-orbit and superior LEO smallsat constellation performance. In addition, the company has won contracts to design, build, and operate ten satellites with remote sensing payloads that will launch in 2025 and 2026. This quote from Jonny Dyer, CEO of Muon Space, sums up why this is so important for the NewSpace ecosystem. "We are providing our customers with an alternative to the launch delays, cost overruns, mission failures, and insufficient operational performance typical in industry today. With Muon Halo's cutting-edge space, ground, and cloud building blocks we support the highest performance, custom mission requirements with a standardized, highly qualified hardware and software platform." #aerospaceengineering #plm #spacetech #engineeringinnovation
Exciting News! 🛰 Muon Space is pushing the boundaries of #LEO satellite constellations with the introduction of Muon Halo™. This revolutionary technology stack integrates hardware and software, promising optimized missions and faster time-to-orbit. Additionally, we're thrilled to share that we've secured more than $60M in contracts for 10 Muon Halo spacecraft! Read more: https://lnkd.in/gpdHt5iG

🌍 🛰 DSOC is the farthest-ever demonstration of optical communications - a way to communicate at high rates using near-infrared lasers. Cloud occurence has a major influence on optical link availability between ground stations and senders/receivers in space. Also, sub visible clouds, aerosols and water vapor impact the transmissivity between optical ground stations and their counterpart in space, commonly LEO satellites. 🎉 NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory #MissiontoPsyche has recently achieved a milestone in Deep Space Optical Communications, sending test data successfully via the uplink and downlink near-infrared lasers between Psyche spacecraft and Caltech’s Palomar Observatory in California. 🌥 🌤 ☀ Given the variability of the cloud cover, scheduling optical link availability and selecting the right ground station from an OGS network remains a challenge. Reuniwatt's infrared sky camera Sky InSight™ is on board a number of research projects, aiming to assess the availability for optical links through the atmosphere. One of these projects is ANAtOLIA, an ESA-funded project aiming to characterize and predict critical atmospheric parameters for the purposes of the selection of the OGS sites and the evaluation of their availability. Another example is project CO-OP, a collaboration of 17 French SMEs and major groups with the goal to enable future high-speed bidirectional optical links for satellite telecommunications missions in geostationary orbit. 👀 Keep your eyes open, we will soon come up with more FSOC content #forecasting #satellitecommunications #opticalcommunications
Remember the tech demo that launched with #MissionToPsyche? Well, it just called home. It's the first time data has been transmitted – via laser – beyond the Moon, and it could transform how spacecraft communicate. More on DSOC: https://lnkd.in/gbeb8rfR
