I would like to take a second to remind job seekers about having realistic salary expectations. Company offered an external candidate (mid 20s) with no degree(not a requirement) and 3 years experience over $40 per hour on a 9/80 schedule (plus company benefits and relocation package) for an aviation mechanic role with no management/supervisor responsibilities and they turned it down. That is $70k+ annually, walking in the door. They turned it down because they didn't feel it was adequate compensation. I wish them luck in their future search. #realisticexpectations

Flying Spanner jobs: There are many different views on this job and will try to elaborate as we go. A flying spanner is essentially an aircraft engineer who flies with the aircraft and attends to it at remote airports wherever it goes. Essentially most VIP aircraft have their teams of flying spanners, and I think that is why it may sound appealing (the VIP bit), however sometimes as they say, not all that shines is gold. I will try and make two lists, with the pros and cons for VIP Flying spanner jobs and then you can maybe decide if this is for you: Pros: Good money Unlimited travel Nice, exotic lifestyle Part of an elite team Good training prospects Cons: Massive pressure to perform at all times - you are everything (Mechanic, planner, procurement, liaison) Can be a burden on marriage/relationship Most times, your employer or the crew is having the nice exotic lifestyle while you are tending an AOG There are many stories out there of people having done such flights/jobs. 6 years ago, I inadvertently became a recruitment consultant while also working 11-hour shifts in an MRO hangar with the guys I recruited in Austria. 14 years ago, I obtained my EASA B1 License and Q400 type rating, and 7 years ago, I obtained my EASA CAT C. My career in aviation started 19 years ago as an apprentice Aircraft Engineer at Flybe in Exeter. I know many of you have a negative perception of recruiters - "sharks," "vultures," or "snakes in the grass." But is deep technical experience important when searching for a job and talking with recruiters?
