There has been a lot of talk around IWD this year. I was reluctant to post anything on LinkedIn but then was reflecting on the achievements Interlow has accomplished in recent years specifically around developing our people and creating a supportive and inclusive workplace.
This is not a corporate or employer supported post here, I am writing this from my personal perspective & I am proud to be part of the initiatives associated with inclusion and diversity at Interflow. This why I do what I do for a career - I am passionate about creating great places to work where people feel supported and psychologically safe to be themselves. The benefit to both the employee and employer is exponential.
I joined Interflow 3 years ago because the leadership team were dedicated to investing in their people, they didn't just say it, they bloody well did it!! 👏 IWD at Interflow is not tokenism or a feminism rhetoric, it's real action and initiatives with inspiring outcomes every day of the year.
To name a few initiatives:
- removing barriers to enter into Project Management / Engineering career path such as offering part time hours, flexible start/end times, and removing mandatory engineering degrees as a prerequisite. Transferable skills are just as valuable and offer creative problem solving. We have been able to appoint numerous internal candidates to these roles which creates improved and more diverse career pathways and......
- this has created a more diverse workforce and has offered us a larger pool of candidates to select from. We hire based on vales/behaviour alignment (amongst other attributes), not just an educational quification. As a result we have seen a dramatic increase of females at our workplace,
- equal paid parental leave for both parents - dads can access generous paid parental leave,
- upskilling our people leaders to know how to engage/lead a more diverse workforce,
- contining to support Water Aid - we were successful at a live auction for our emerging female leaders to spend time with women in leadership roles in the water industry.....to name a few.
Shout out to Daniel Weaver and Richard McCarthy for giving me the opportunity to bid on the above mentioned auction 🙌😜
I love the video created by our Marcomms team, its real and authentic and this is what IWD means to Interflow - not one day a year but for every day of the year for generations to come. 🫶👷♀️👩🏫👩💻
