Building on the theme of a recent LinkedIn post highlighting that "everything will change and nothing will change, until..."   It is encouraging to see that a reset of #devolution has been made a priority by the new Government. In our view, a key part of this reset has to be a greater recognition of the role that purpose-led businesses and civil society can play in driving regional policy, in collaborative partnership with the public sector. That is one of the key pillars of the #TrueNorthNetwork, a new network of more than 270 – and growing – like-minded businesses, leaders and other organisations, committed to supporting the future of the North through economic growth and social prosperity. So, together with Prof. Maggie O' Carroll & Michael Hayman MBE DL - and on behalf of the True North Network - I have written to the cohort of Northern MPs that form a significant part of the new Government and the directly elected mayors of the North, to offer our help and support as they draw up their local economic and growth plans, and identify the sectors and necessary infrastructure we need to thrive.   I also spoke with Maggie for the latest insights piece on our #TrueNorth hub, which explores what a new model of devolution could look like – what it should include, what it perhaps shouldn’t, and what models we can look to for inspiration from outside of the UK.   Read the full piece here and please engage with us and let us know if you agree that a reset of the relationship between Westminster and the regions should also consider a reset of what we mean by devolution itself: ➡ Read the article: https://lnkd.in/eP2ettzZ

While some devolution can serve local communities more effectively for some services and activities, there remains a strong need for nation-wide strategy and delivery if you want to plan and deliver at a national and strategic level on key subjects. The challenge is finding that balance and not getting carried away with devolution or centralized management alone.
