🚀 The SCARBOn Project Has Launched! 🚀 On January 1st, 2024, the Space CARBon Observatory next step (SCARBOn) project, funded by the EU Horizon Europe Programme, officially started under the coordination of Airbus Defence and Space. Working towards a climate-neutral future, the SCARBOn project is here to make a difference! 🌍 Our mission is to provide accurate satellite data on CO2 and CH4 emissions on a sub-daily basis by 2030, supporting the 2015 Paris Agreement goals and improving European climate change efforts. 💡How? Celebrating 25 years since Denmark's first satellite launch! Named after Danish physicist Hans Christian Ørsted, who discovered electromagnetism, the Ørsted satellite aimed to study Earth's magnetic field. It was Denmark's debut in satellite development and construction. 🛰 🚀 Over the years, Denmark has launched several satellites. One example is Sternula-1, launched on January 3rd, 2023, as part of the MARIOT project. This marked Denmark's entry into commercialization of space, as Sternula became Denmark's first commercial satellite operator. Equipped with AIS 2.0 (VDES) technology, Sternula-1's launch was a big step toward the digitalization of the shipping industry. It will lead to more efficient maritime operations, from managing docks to predicting weather based on location. According to Solestial, Atomos Space's in-space delivery vehicles will be powered by its incredibly thin solar cells. A space-based solar technology expert from Arizona named Solestial has agreed to collaborate with in-space logistics company Atomos Space. It will give Atomos Space's solar-powered orbital transfer vehicles (OTV) ultra-thin PV blankets. The OTVs from Atomos Space offer satellite operators a variety of transportation services. The agreement specifies that the vehicle will be powered by at least 20 kW of ultra-thin, low-mass, radiation-hardened solar blankets in 2024 for a number of upcoming missions. According to the business, the efficiency of its 20-micron thick cells is over 20%. We surely did!   OIP is contributing to the newest Guardian that will be watching over our little blue dot starting from 2026 onwards. 🌍   As part of the ESA #Copernicus Anthropogenic Carbon Dioxide Monitoring (CO2M) mission our Cloud Imager (CLIM) will determine the presence and position of clouds, with the aim to support the data screening and line of sight analysis. The objective of the mission is to contribute to the global monitoring of anthropogenic CO2 emissions. The #CO2M mission measurements will reduce current uncertainties in estimates of emissions of carbon dioxide from the combustion of fossil fuels at national and regional scales. 🚀 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮: The new heavy-duty rocket of the European Space Agency - ESA "Ariane 6" also contains Austrian know-how and technology. The rocket was launched as planned on July 9th. The launch of ESA's new rocket is intended to make Europe's space travel more competitive and autonomous. 4 Austrian companies were involved to make the project a success: 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮 The country's largest space supplier, Beyond Gravity Austria, headquartered in Vienna, supplied the high-temperature thermal insulation for the rocket engines of the new system as well as a control mechanism ("gimbal mechanism") for the upper stage of the rocket, which ensures the precise alignment of the engine. 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮 The Viennese high-tech company TTTech was involved in the development of the launch vehicle's data network and supplied components for the on-board electronics. The company's chips make it possible to transmit safety-critical navigation and control data as well as less critical monitoring or video data reliably and at high speed in one and the same network. 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘅𝘆𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗟𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮 TEST-FUCHS Aerospace Systems from Groß-Siegharts has developed various hydrogen and oxygen check valves for Ariane 6. The company is also a production partner for electrovalves and valve blanks. 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗸𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝘁𝘆𝗿𝗶𝗮 HAGE Sondermaschinenbau GmbH produced a 50 metre long system, which was used to process the bulkheads for Ariane 6.
