Today we celebrate the eight anniversary of the Agenda 2030. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), agreed by United Nations member states, guide global efforts towards sustainable development. In our project, Karasu Municipality and Sakarya University of Applied Sciences worked together to increase the public awareness on micromobility use and enhanced the connectivity of coastal area to the inner part of the city with safe and improved cycling infrastructure in Karasu. Each of these cities were selected for the Sustainable Cities Mobility Challenge, supported by FedEx, where they received financial support to implement or expand transport solutions that are driving the green transition at the local level. United Nations General Assembly #SustainabilityWeek 2024 🇺🇳🌱 The President of the General Assembly for its 78th Session, Dennis Francis convened the first-ever United Nations General Assembly #SustainabilityWeek from 15 to 19 April 2024, in the General Assembly Hall, #UN Headquarters, #NewYork. This included a series of high-level important discussions that addressed critical aspects of sustainability, including socioeconomic equality, sustainable tourism, transport, and the completion of the UN Decade of Sustainable Energy for All. It was an honor to speak in-person at inaugural #UNGA Sustainability Week during the Informal Dialogue on Building Global Resilience and Promoting Sustainable Development through Infrastructural Connectivity. The message is clear, to meet the targets of the #SDGs we need collaborative action from diverse stakeholders. As highlighted by H:E Dennis Francis, we need to carry forward this momentum to the #Summit of the Future and beyond and turn commitments made this week into actionable and sustained efforts to meaningfully benefit prosperity, planet, and people. Our CEO, Ásgeir Baldurs, joined Iceland's first UN Global Compact roundtable discussion led by Halla Tomasdottir from The B Team. On October 25th, ten CEOs from various Icelandic companies, including Ásgeir, came together to discuss sustainability challenges and ways to collaborate for faster progress. Their aim was to assess the current sustainability landscape, pinpoint obstacles, and explore joint pathways toward improvements. The CEOs jointly emphasized the crucial need to align Icelandic economic and public sector priorities with sustainability objectives. They stressed the importance of unified efforts in addressing sustainability concerns and committed to collaborating effectively to achieve this common goal: "Cooperation between the public and private sectors and sharing knowledge across industries is the key to a fairer and more sustainable world. We call on all companies and governments to put more emphasis on sustainability issues in their operations and business activities, and in particular, support carbon neutrality goals for 2040, the use of green energy, the acceleration of the energy transition, innovation, and funding of actions. Only through ambitious goals, actions, and courage can we increase value and prosperity for all both responsibly and sustainably."
